I take it your post is in US$? The return fares are around A$900 (approx US$500). Try www.travel.com.au. There's a Qantas Singapore deals link on the front page
I'm sure the oneway fare would be cheaper!

Not for travel originating from SIN. You can find the best fares already on the BA/QF website for fares out of SIN. Won't be much diff even if you get a local agent. Fares from SIN to Australia rarely are discounted because they are already so full most of the time.
