True, that AA opendated tickets might bring some more questions at security checkpoints, but in all due respect, AA -WILL- accept the tickets as long as there is an existing reservation. They will question it more if it is an open reservation with NO reservation and you're making a reservation there and then at check-in.

All my tickets are open dated. Some of them are on special CX/TW tickets that don't even exist anymore but CX says that it can still be used. However they cannot reissue it to reflect CX/AA as the special RTW fare no longer exists with the demise of TWA. AA on the other hand, even the RTW desk has never heard of the fare since the TWA desk was responsible for it and well, you know, TW only exists in memory.

So I will find out what will happen in 2 weeks when I attempt to use it. Especially from Aug 1 when AA removes the "Operated by TWA" signature entirely.

I've just had another frustrating call with the AA ATW desk. Over 20 minutes making a date change to a flight booking that was ALREADY in their system. I completely lost it this time and vented with a supervisor. Again, she said that they don't agree with the new policy and that we should write in our complaints. I think something sent to the executive offices might be a start.

Interestingly I've had three flights since my first call with them - none of the airport check-in staff have queried the ticket or said anything about a reissue.

FYI I have just finished a six segment mileage run in the US using a DONE3 ticket that was completely open dated with reservations made separately. I had absolutely no trouble at all with the ticket - though I did get a few raised eyebrows at check-in with two consecutive overnights consisting of SFO-MIA-DFW-SFO & SFO-ORD-DFW-SFO. (I am now an AA Platinum)

However, apparently since this ticket was on BA stock issued in Hong Kong (and perhaps because I made the reservations only two days before) I got "randomly" selected for gate screening 5 times out of 6.
