Emerald Oneworld needs help with CX!
Hello All,
Would appreciate your suggestions. I am trying to get Free Business Class on Cathay Pacific (U booking code) from Vancouver to JFK on both July 24 and August 13. These are 2 seperate tickets/awards. Per CX, the flights are wide open yet are sold out in U. CX says if you are a Marco Polo member the flights would be waitlisted and almost certainly clear. However, booking through AA since it is there award, this is not an option even though I am Executive Platinum. I asked the Exec Plat desk to contact CX on my behalf yet their "liasion" says CX will not clear any seats even for Exec Plat/Emerald Oneworld. How can I get these seats? AA is full to DFW, STL, and ORD and I really don't want to have to go down to SEA to pick up AA.
I will also post this on the AA page in case someone there has some ideas as well, so please accept my apologies if you see this there as well.
Thanks!

Sorry. In this case, only Marco Polo Club and Asiamiles members have one up against all OneWorld emerald members when it comes to getting award seats on CX this summer.
Flights are extremely full on CX to/from all NORTH AMERICAN gateways till at least mid September.
CX will give preference to MPO members who are allowed to waitlist on award space. Clearance will be given to members' bookings first based on their status. So even members' booking for friends and relatives will not get priority over actual members' travelling.
CX is very very tight in giving out award seats especially in the summer season when actual fare paying customers can fill the seats. And seats are sometimes blocked off till the last day of travel before it gets released. CX is certainly not going to give up an award seat just because AA calls.
Times like this, I guess it pays to keep the Marco Polo membership!

Guy Betsy,
My experience mirrors yours (although as an MPO Diamond, I am being allowed to waitlist three flights for friends coming over to visit me from SFO around Xmas), but note that what chuck1 is looking for is the YVR-JFK leg rather than the transpacific. I'm not sure whether that is as full as the HKG-YVR.
Nevertheless, I understand that there are different U quotas for CX and for OW partners. (I have a situation where I can get an award flight on CX miles, but not on some BA miles). However, at the moment (I called out of curiousity) there is no availability to me either for U on those flights.
