It's almost official

So after a few changes, I'm almost all confirmed (one LA flight GRU-SCL isn't operating so that puts me 2k miles shy which'll be fixed by the flight home). A hint to those who want to get back to the US from JNB and don't want to wait all day for the evening flights. You can buy a ticket JNB-GRU in F for $1300 one way on either Varig or SAA that leaves at 10:30. I figured it was either $700 in Y or $1300 in F, my money's in the front!

So here's the itinerary :

Lot of questions...:
In FC? How much for the ticket? How many miles? How long does this adventure take you?

Howdy, I've answered these somewhat in another thread but I'll sum up here. With taxes, the ticket is $4420 in F (or J where F is not available) with the above itinerary. One of the flights GRU-SCL was cancelled and I was forced to redo the entire itinerary, but the pricing should remain the same.

The total time will be around 11 days. I'll be doing it split into four weekends. Only the first part takes quite a bit of time, as getting to JNB takes a while, and getting OUT of JNB takes a while. Flights all arrive in the morning and leave in the evening, with very few exceptions. (I recall seeing one LTU flight to MUC from CPT and there's the SAA JNB-GRU that I'll be taking at the end to get back home which leaves at 10:20.) With the combination of the RTW and a self purchased GRU-DFW ticket on AA, I will be comfortably over 100k Q points by the end of September. The actual mileage flown is approximately 66,000 miles.

If you're looking for a nice place to kill some time (sleeping/relaxing) in JNB, then I can recommend the JNB Airport Sun Inter-Continental. A relatively new property, you can get outstanding day-room rates for a nicely appointed room and full access to the top-floor fitness center that overlooks the runways. It's steps outside of the international arrivals hall and it's a godsend after having spent 1 + days getting down there (in any class of service). Have stayed there about a dozen times this year and it's the best deal going.
