Need help with European Segment...

I was scheduled on a LHR-DXB-LHR flight but the schedule has been reduced and my flight was cancelled.

Here is what I am trying to do: A mileage run that is over 2000 miles (per segment) to maximize my BA tier points in First Class. So I am trying to find a 3 class service flight.

Criteria:
- Need to leave on a Thursday night after 8pm (from LHR) and return straight back to LHR on Friday morning/afternoon.

Options:
- Was booked on LHR-DXB-LHR but now cancelled.
- Can take LHR-TLV-LHR. LHR-TLV (BA163) looks like there is a stop there. Does this flight still count as one segment? But I am worried about the unrest in that region. Any thoughts on whether DXB or TLV is more stable?

Any other options?

I did the Cairo run last year, but the schedule then meant that I had to wait 8 hours before the return flight to LHR - ended up staying in Cairo for two nights (it turned out to be one of the most expensive mileage runs I've ever done - but that's another story!).

It looks that you can still do the DXB run leaving on a Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday if you have that flexibility (or, effective 1NOV, any day except Wednesday and Thursday). What dates were you looking at?

Scheduling-wise it looks like there is still an evening departure on Thursdays from LHR to Kuwait. Safety/security-wise you will have to make your own decision.

Thanks for all the replies. With my current plan, it has to be a Thursday or Friday.

I'll probably go with the TLV option which is probably better than the Kuwait option.

Has anyone done the TLV run recently?

Have you had any experience getting that? I haven't tried before...

In terms of security I would be much happier with DXB or Kuwait than TLV! Even if things kick-off in Afghanistan, the Middle East is far enough away to avoid direct trouble.

I don't think BA will take any chances either. After dropping a 747 in to the middle of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait I think BA will be a little more cautious next time.

If I was in your position I would go to the middle east as planned. I am refusing to let the ba5tards disrupt my life. Unfortunately too many people are changing their plans because of what 11 Sep. When that happens the ba5tards win. They get exactly what they want - disrupt our plans and hit our economies.

a few similar, but different cases. e.g.
1. with AA, i had bos-yyz-hkg, the eagle flight from bos is cancelled. i was rerouted via lax. i ended up having both miles, both on AAdv
2. with cx, during the strike / typhoon. i was rerouted from lax-hkg-lhr on cx, to lax-lhr direct on ba. i had miles on cx (i didnt fly) credited to MPO, while BA flights to BAEC.

for all cases, i flew some other route, none of the no-fly miles are given by BA, and i got 'double' credit.

so i think there is great chance you will get it. the best way is possibly call the reservation agent and/or BAEC to negotiate (perhaps they would even reroute you to Jo'berg!). the chance is you can fly, eg, LHR-AMS (so that you don't even have to change terminal!) and get LHR-DXB tier/mile credit.
and you might get double dipped if u put the lhr-ams into another FFP program.

i will not go to TLV at this time...at least not until the TU-154 incident is cleared.

good luck
