RTW route possible?
Hello,
I'm a Canadain currently living in New Zealand.
I'll be leaving here in about 8 months and want to hit a bunch of places on the way back (over a few months). OW RTW seems to be the cheapest way.
I'm hoping to do something along the following route:
Auckland NZ - Sydney AU
Drawrin AU - Bali
Bali - Hanoi VN (via Singapore)
Siagon VN - Bangkok TI
Phuket TI - Cape Town South Africa (via Bangkok)
Joh South Africa - Casablanca MO
Madrid SP - Toronto CA (via London)
<Toronto CA - Auckland NZ>
I wont be getting back on the plane from Toronto, but from the resurch I've done, it seems cheaper to get the RTW ticket and save the return for a rainy day.
From the schedules I've been able to grab, all of these flights are part of OW curretly.
Has anyone done a similar route? Is it even possible?
Thanks in advance.
-J

Doable but it'll be a 5 continent fare (Southwest Pacific, Asia, Africa, Europe, N. America).
You might want to consider putting in as many extraneous segments to get mileage and a free trip out of it. My suggested routing:
AKL-MEL/PER-SYD-DRW-DPS-SIN-BKK-HKG-SGN-HKG-CPT/JNB-LHR-Casablanca-LHR-MAD-LHR-LAX-DFW-YYZ
You would still have an itinerary such as YYZ-JFK-LAX-AKL leftover.

Great thanks!
BTW, I know this may sound silly, but I haven't done much air travel before coming to NZ. I've collected airmiles here and there but never paid much attantion to them. With OW RTW, say I fly 35,000 miles or so, what would that get me? What's the bonus of maxing your miles?

The routing I suggested could get you over 35K + an additional 100% bonus if you are plan it right. See: mileage display. That could yield as much as 3 or more free round trips within North America or at least one ticket to Europe or even Asia.
What class of travel will oyu be flying? If economy, you want to join AAdvantage with a Canadian address (has certain advantages such as getting 70-100% miles for your class of travel on CX, BA and QF).
What you want to do is look up the American Airlines forum for the topic: elite "challenge". You want to start your challenge on the 1st or 16th of the month you start flying but BEFORE you start flying. You might want to consider going for Platinum.
Also avoid flying IB as you won't get any miles with them.
