OW Price chart

A HUGE amount (and very complete) of OW Explorer price data was recently given to me, it will take me a few days to integrate it into the price chart, stay tuned.

Guess this all will have to change if BA and AA divorces. Hopefully AA will get their hands on JL.

There is so much data, I'll have to do it in stages. I've released a new version containing full prices from North/Central America and Asia. This represent 25% of the new data that I've received, I'll announce as more continents are integrated into the price chart.

Hi Chang, I'm in the UK (where the OW fare in C class is a bit too pricey) and so look forward to reading your charts for a bargain C class fare from somewhere else in Europe.
And what a great favour you are doing us all-
many thanks.

This is a wonderful piece of work to help us all plan such trips. Thanks for the time it has taken you, hsi.chang. Looks like the U.K. is actually one of the cheaper places to start one of these trips from if you're in the back cabin.

Trust your own trip soon will go smoothly.

My thanks to you for creating this for us and Guy Betsy for helping you get such detailed information. This is an excellent resource. It will keep me and my currency converter busy for a while!

Thanks!

Now up to 50% of the data processed. Still remaining are all the European/Middle-East departure points Germany and below (alphabetically). Also got some data regarding the OW Visit Europe Airpass, so that data is added to the main chart as a link.

At this rate, it will be the end of the week before I get them all. Sorry, "United Kingdom" is last on the list, alphabetically.

Finally crunched through all the data. The chart is now up to date. Sorry, SW Pacific departure points were not provided, so data from that region is slightly stale.

I will try to improve navigation of the chart, but the chart will remain as is, unless there are new data available, or corrections. Enjoy !!

Great job hsi.chang!

The prices sure vary widely from country to country. Out of curiosity, has anyone compared the prices in the EU countries in Euros?

I have done some in dollars, for business class. I assumed that first class and economy would be proportionate. They are listed as 3,4,5, and 6 continents, respectively.

France - B $2,823 $3,391 $3,903 $4,484
Germany - B $2,799 $3,356 $3,862 $4,443
Belgium - B $2,908 $3,491 $4,015 $4,616
Denmark - B $2,843 $3,411 $3,923 $4,511
Finland - B $2,716 $3,259 $3,749 $4,310
Madrid - B $2,870 $3,443 $3,960
Portugal - B $2,847 $3,417 $3,929 $4,519
Norway - B $2,858 $3,429 $3,944 $4,535
Netherlands - B $2,930 $3,515 $4,042 $4,647
Lux - B $2,887 $3,466 $3,987 $4,584
Italy - B $2,868 $3,442 $3,958 $4,552
Greece - B $2,898 $3,478 $4,000 $4,600
Czech - B $2,994 $3,594 $4,133 $4,753

Posting the local currency exchnage rate when you converted would be nice. Given the Euro's (further) drop against the USD recently, these fares should be lower in USD terms (unless the airlines bumped up the vost).

I doubt Ionman's query is related to this unless he bought his ticket at the Euro's inception (very unlikely).

hsi.chang,

Thank you for all the great work. I would like to invite someone to take the next step of making this data easier to process. The specific suggestion I have is to provide it in normalized way - in US$ or with an easy currency converter. This helps in comparisions and in deciding where to start.

For example, it seems India, Budapest, Seoul, Canada are some of the cheaper priced starting points especially for B and F. I saw the post by Darren above for some European nations and elsewhere about Belgium and Seoul and a comment by RichLond regarding Budapest.

Hsi.chang is the data available in a spreadsheet or database format as well? That may be easier to process. I have access to huge web development talent and maybe I can ask one of my web teams to whip up a live converter based on your table.

I used the yahoo exchange rate of the day, which I know is probably 2% - 5% understated from what it would actually be exchanged at. I am not sure that you can exactly pinpoint the rates v. the dollar because if someone exchanges at a burex, and another charges on a credit card, it will be very different. IIRC, I did it when the euro was about .87 or so. I got the raw numbers from http://www.geocities.com/osointer/oneworld.htm

As far as the person who posted about Madrid.

Biz fare 4 cont. - 667,200 pesetas
Exchange rate - 0.00512111 dollars per peseta
Total - 3417

Keep in mind that this is exclusive of taxes and airport fees, which would depend on where you went. It also doesn't include any exchange fees, of which I get charged 2%. Might be where your extra $1000 came in. I think it is a handy comparison, though, since the fees that are not included will be (to a certain extent) constant.

Turns out that Budapest does come in as the cheapest I have found out of Europe. $2751 for BC, 4 cont. Look at it this way. Whatever the differences are, you will pay more or save *at least* that much.
