BYE BYE ONEWORLD

According to Bloomberg, BA is dumping its partnership with AA. This will be announced tomorrow by Rod Eddington. BA will now try to form an alliance around KLM and its partner NW.

This will end all of the speculation.

Big News!!!

I went to Bloomberg and read the report. It never said that BA was going to leave OneWorld -- just that it was not going to align itself (i.e. code share or award FF miles o transatlantic flights) with AA. Wouldn't it be interested to see if NW and KLM join oneworld. I dont think airlines need US Government permission to join an alliance -- just to codeshare.

Don Carty said yesterday that the oneworld Alliance will survive with or without co-founder British Airways.

But I think what Carty really needs to think about is whether AA will get to stay.

BA calls more shots in the alliance than AA does.

As I'd noted previously, it is NOT even clear who will keep the name "Oneworld!"

Neither AA nor BA really "own" it!

If BA trys to get around the lack of an open sky agreement by joing forces with KLM/NW, the US government has threatend to pull the open sky agreement with Holland.
