Good point Flying Dutchman. That may work. But are, say, AA's computers capable of pulling up whether or not a segment has been credited to another airline along with all the details of whether it was a stopover or a connection? Or does AA have to call or send off for that info? If they are connected and they have a program to verify such details (I really highly doubt they do), it wouldn't take too much effort.

I believe I remember people saying from the last 100k bonus that one program had to check to see if another program had already credited the segment. If that is the case, it is going to take them a while to verify all of this.

As for the 24 hr. rule.....even if they dictate and enforce the 24 hr. clause, I would assume that a legal stopover in the ticket would qualify.

My guess is that the reservation system captures weather a stop in a city is a stopover ("0") or a connection ("X"). That information is most certainly past to the FF system. Therefore if the ticket shows it as a stopover, the reservation system shows it as a stopover, and you credit the "less than 24 hour stop flight" to 2 seperate accounts you will probably get credit for that city.

If you are buying a RTW ticket you can actually buy an open ticket and then have each segment be a seperate PNR.

Additionaly, i noticed the iberia rules state that it is only the arrival city that matters for the bonus. It specifically states that the departure city does not matter what ever the location. this means that SYD - BNE will count as the Australia segment.

I can almost swear seeing on the AA rules that it is the continent of arrival that counts too.

So is the cheapest way to get this bonus by buying a 1W RTW 4 continent ticket (this will qualify right?) or by buying separate tickets with various 1W partners?

I want to get these miles posted to my BA FFF account, does that mean I have to get all segments ticketed by BA?

BA has nothing concrete on their site and it seems that Lan Chile is saying that Central America is part of S America whereas the 1W definition is that C America is part on N America.

We should get bonus miles just for figuring what in the heck is what!

According to Iberia, when they state that points can only be collected once per program it means that a single flight segment will only be counted once in 1 program. However if you fly to the 6 continents 2 times each, you could get the bonus in 2 seperate programs, but not 2 times in 1 program.

According to the Iberia rep they had "a lot" of people fly only 5 segments in the last 1 world program and then ask for the bonus in all 7 programs. They want to avoid that this time.

In any event, me and 3 mates are off to australia via north africa and asia on July 1. We are using a RTW 5 Continent first clss ticket. We are going for the 100k 3 times. For some reason, my friends do not see the joy in taking another couple of flights to get the bonus 5 more times!!! LOL

RichLond & Spider: Thanks for the clarification. The "only one program" clause makes a lot more sense now.

It appears that a 4 Continent RTW will get you the bonus. Spoke with AA's RTW desk (800 247 3247) and Tunisia and Morocco count as Europe for the purposes of the Continents RTW as does Costa Rica (and most likely Belize and Panama) for N. America. These countries are Africa and S. America respectively for the programme.

Ok - If I got this right you can get 100,000 miles on each airline if you visit each continent 8 times. 4 continent RTW includes 6 continents for the promotion. You get 3 stopovers per continent and for $100 each you can get additional stopovers.

8 stops on 6 continents = 48 stops

RTW 4 Continent (12 stops) = $3600
36 additional stops @ $100ea $3600

800,000 bonus miles + actual for $7200

Now, can anyone do this in less than 2 months?

This presumes you are travelling in economy. As noted in another topic I started, you cannot earn AA miles in M class on 1) EI (all flights) 2) if resident outside N. America and Australia for BA, 3) IB if not flying trans-Atlantic, 4) CX if not resident in Canada.

The CX rules kills many of the Asia options unless you take BA HKG-TPE or HKG-MNL among a few limited others.

Also, many of the BA flights to Africa are operated by independent franchise carriers GB Airways (Tunisia, Morocco and presumably Algeria) and British Meditterenean (Alexandria, Egypt) which may not qualify. The only real BA metal I can find to N. Africa are to CAI and TIP (Tripoli, Libya); the latter may be a bit difficult for U.S. citizens.

Note. In Asiamiles (CX's programme), you can earn mles in M in all except IB. However given that EI and LANChile have not been added, I would also check to be sure if there have been any changes made.

What I'm doing for AAdvantage 100,000 bonus.

I would rather not "quibble" with American about ambiguous terms, so have set up the following trip.

I had trip to Spain already planned, so have kept this Florida-Spain-Florida ticket as separate trip. Then, started an around-the-world business class ticket ORIGINATING in Spain (about $2,000 cheaper than originating in USA), flying all over the place:
BCN-EZE-MIA-LAX-MIA-SFO-DFW-LGA-YYZ-HKG-TPE-HKG-SIN-HKG-AKL-SYD-PER-SYD-JNB-LHR-MAD
This all done in about 2 1/2 weeks, with ony a few stopovers: 4 days in Miami, 2 days in San Francisco, 5 days in Singapore.
The Toronto-Hong Kong portion garners 20,000 bonus miles (Cathay promotion CXMAX) for leaving via Toronoto. Six segments on Cathay garners 10,000 bonus. Above flights about 60,000 "actual" miles. Plus 25% "bonus" for booking in business class, plus 100% bonus for me being Platinum. Plus 100,000 miles OW bonus. A lot of miles, and ticket around $5,000.00 for business class originating in Spain with 6 continents.
Not bad, eh?

2. Looking at your itinerary, aren't you breaking the "only one nonstop/direct transcontinental sector is permitted within/between USA-CAN" rule with MIA-LAX-MIA-SFO or is this not in the rules ex-Spain?

3. I'd add LHR-CAI-LHR at no cost (it is considered Middle-East/Europe for the RTW fare!) to get a 2nd Africa and get the bonus on another programme. Also maybe divert SIN-BKK-HKG and SYD-MEL-PER for more Asia legs to spread around.
