The catch of this promo (again, SPECIFIC to this promo) is that Egypt and Morocco are considered Africa, while Central America is considered South America.
Meanwhile, the OWE definition of continents define both Egypt and Morocco as Europe/Middle East, while Central America as North America. That's the reason why you can get the six continent 100,000 mile bonus by using a four continent OneWorld Explorer fare. Hope this clarifies. |
CPYVR: I certainly wasn't trying to you of offering bad info...apologies if it appeared that way. Just wanted to clarify that at least one OW partner (ie CX's AsiaMiles) was counting the northern Africa countries as being in Africa.
And you are absolutely right that anyone attempting this bonus should get some sort of written clarification from the relevant airline, since the OW partners seem to be having a tough time deciding where to place the Middle East. |
Firstly, to be utterly pedantic (which I am always I suppose http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ), East Timor is a seperate country/state now - official independence came sometime last year.
But more to the point..... With Lan Chile coming on board, do we have a good South Pacific/South America leg? They run Papeete/Easter Island (and then to San Tiago). With the way it works, you could pick up 2 Arrivals in both South Pacific and South America. Fly to Sydney, then to Papeete, then to Easter Island, then to Santiago. That would surely help? I assume that Papeete is South Pacific and Easter Island is South America - I could easily be wrong. |
JFK - LHR -JNB-HKG-SYD-CCS -LAX maybe not cheap but a variation will get you six continents and the bonus miles and you can only get the bonus once between all the OW carriers. It can be done it just takes some figuring.
|
Let me see if I got this one right. If you touch down on all six continents then you'll get 100k (or 50k or whichever case applies) bonus miles for only ONE FF program? So, if I fly all 1W airlines then the whole bonus will go ONLY into ONE FF account despite the fact that I flew more than one airline?

Has anyone sent an email to American Advantage to find out if Morocco is part of Africa or Europe?

Who flies SYD-CCS?!?!?!? |
Has anyone clarified whether these flights have to be from Continent->Continent or do intra-Continental flights count?
|
The only flights to / from South America that would count would be:
- the Qantas / Lan Chile flight to Santiago de Chile (SCL). QF operates SYD - AKL - Papette. Lan Chile operates the Papette - Easter Island - SCL portion. - QF AKL - EZE. Note: QF only operates this a couple of days a week. They did code-share with Aerolineas Argentinas on some other days. Make sure you book the QF-operated and -ticketed flight to get the bonus since all flights have to be OW-operated and OW-marketed. I believe these are the only flights to S. Am. from Australia without going via another continent. |
I called AA 3 times today just to be sure. Twice was AAdvantage customer service and the other was an international resv. agent I think. I was transferred a lot, so sometimes I wasn't sure who I was speaking to. All 3 interpreted the rule of intra-continental flights the same. Wherever you arrive, whether from a different continent or the same continent, the arrival country is the one that counts.
For example: HKG-NRT counts as Asia DFW-LAX counts as N.A. Now the part about which countries are in which continent I have no idea. I would think that the best think to do is for each person to call their respective airline program and inquire about which country they are specifically referring to. My question is this. What other programs are offering this bonus? Other than AA and QF(of which I have a copy of their rules), I have seen no documentation of any of the other programs offering this bonus. I believe someone mentioned CX offering it, so can someone please post a copy of the rules or a link. I have looked on every carriers website and have not found any mention of it. Maybe by June 1 it will be up and running. CM |

And CX has a list of countries broken down by continent for this promotion --- not sure if this applies to AA or any other oneworld carriers.
|
AerLingus has issued a press release that indicates they will offer 25,000 TAB points if you fly to all 6 continents. Lan Chile's LAN Pass news letter states they are offering 160,000 km for getting all 6 continents. Neither announcement provide details on a "stop over" rule or any exceptions to which continent a specific country is in. rich |

Just got off the phone with AA Advantage. NOW they say that you MUST stop for 24 hours at a continent for that stop to count as part of the one world bonus. This is different than two weeks ago. Anyone else confused????
