I amnew to FlyerTalk.

I noticed that everyone is talking about a 100K miles bonus on OneWorld if you fly on 5 different members of the alliance.

I cannot find this on the AA home page or on the OneWorld home page. If someone could please direct me to a site where I can get details on the promotion.

Does an individual have to pre-register with their carrier (for me, AA) in order to obtain the bonuses, and was there a deadline by which to sign up?

I am a miles hound and I will probably try to get the 100K bonus just for the thrill of it.

Responses are apreciated.

UserMark,

I could have done JFK-LHR via BOS or MIA if I stayed a night in MAN. CX leaves at 1000. However, I didn't want to pay for an extra night of lodging or take an extra day.

Besides, since I need to fly an AA segment, I might as well fly:

Saturday
LGA-YYZ CP
YYZ-LGA AA

Sunday
LGA-YYZ AA
YYZ-LGA CP

I'll save on lodging a second time since I don't need to spend a Sunday night in Toronto.

miles_hound,

From the AA page, go to the AAdvantage page. Then look for the AAdvantage Newsletter. It is in the August issue.

Re crediting outbound and return to two different programs: just this week I booked my round trips on BA (LHR/MAD) and on CX (BKK/HKG). In both cases, I explained that I wanted the outbound credited to BA and the return credited to AA. Both reservations clerks said "No problem!" and assured me they had taken care of it. Of course, we'll see when the flights actually post. (And one reason I went with the outbounds on BA is that I figure they're the more likely to post accurately; if I have to fight for my credits it'll be easier doing so with U.S. airline since I live in the U.S.).

By the way, the BKK/HKG round trip on CX is entirely the same day, with ~1 hours at the airport (a "mileage run", and since business was only ~$70 more than coach, guess which I chose?). CX phoned me today: they were about to mail out the ticket, and wanted to make sure I really intended it as a same day return!

John,

You might want to run that by the agent again when you check in, especially on the return that you want miles credited to a different account.

My parting conrtibution for any Aussie flyertalkers who want to get the bonus on the cheap. I head off in 12 hours. Whereever you are on the 6 continents, if you see a frazzled looking Australian at an airport with the smell of Krug on his breath, caviar stains on his shirt-front and a handful of frequent-flyer cards standing at the check-in counter saying "credit this flight to my AAdvantage account. Oh no this one should be for my Executive Club account.....or is it AsiaMiles. Look I'll have to take the next flight so I've got time to get this right."
Well that will be me

now for the relevant part of the post:

A 3 continent Oneworld Explorer fare in low season (conveniently Oct1-Nov15) costs $AU1999 or $AU1900 from an online travel agent which is equivalent to $US1235. The good thing is all flights are booked in M class so you don't have to worry about whether the flights are valid for point accumulation or not. The second good thing is that its a perfect time for visiting South Africa!
SYD-BNE QF

WDH-CPT BA
CPT-DUR BA
DUR-JNB BA

Earns 2x5 airline bonuses and 1x3 airline bonus = 225000 bonus points plus your mileage points. Happy Flying

I just found out about this promotion thru the WebFlyer e-mail, but I can't find the rules on The Oneworld, AA, or BA site. Any advice?

I use Priority Travel Works from USAirways, and found a $903 fare that I hope qualifies. It's a lot of wear and tear, but here it is:

11/26 EWR-LHR on AA
11/27 LHR-MAN on QF (operated by BA)
11/27 MAN-AMS on CX
11/27 AMS-LHR on BA.
11/28 LHR-YYZ on CP (operated by BA)
11/28 YYZ-ORD on CP (operated by BA)

I'm using a 20,000 award on US to get to EWR and from YYZ, but I'd be using that over Thanksgiving anyway. Where can I find the mileage awarded for each of these segments?

FNZFUND,

I don't think the QF segment qualifies because you can't buy QF from LHR-MAN by itself. You need to by QF from/to UK and Australia/Asia. You can try AY or IB in Europe as your fifth carrier.

Okay guys - I think I will go for the Nut of the Year award. I am aiming for 100K x 7.
BA. CP. AA. QF. AY. CX. CX2.

Two CXs? Yep. I am using my middle name which has the same first letter as my first name, so I am aiming to get all 700K to my name.

Planning to squeeze it all on one OneWorld 4 continents J class ticket plus using existing tickets on hand...I should be able to do all flights by Dec 15.

After discounts from my travel agent, I should be able to get the oneworld ticket for US$2779 in J class. Or should I spend the US$1000 more and go in First?

In two phone calls to BA Executive Club (London), they insist that transatlantic flights on AA, in any class do not count towards the 100k bonus program. They state that such flights have never been classed as 'eligible' flights for their mileage program.

They also advise that only 'full' economy fares, or above, count towards the 100k bonus. Apex, Excursion, R-T-W in economy, and all such fares are out.

They also advised caution regarding code share flights. Basically, a flight is counted against the actual operator, and not according to the flight number. e.g. BA6492 YYZ-LHR counts as a CP flight. AA6521 LGA-YYZ similarly counts as a CP flight.

As full economy is a tad below F/J class, I have been unable to construct an itinerary much below $3000.

Any suggestions please ?

Well, I thought this whole oneworld bonus thing was insane from the start and was reading just for fun. But when I read about the possibility of getting it on both BA and AA, something clicked and I started thinking about taking a week and going to Europe and doing this. But I am seriously confused by all the different thoughts people have about fare codes and what counts, particularly on BA. I'd hate to do this and not get the bonus.

Seawolf, your second itinerary looked great to me (Thanks!!!) and I could do that. I just don't feel really certain yet that this is going to work, especially for the bonus on BA. Can anyone help me build my confidence?
