i dont disagree with you. but my philosophy is take things the way they are. in the next update of rulesheet, they could fix it and,add back the sale restriction to make it near impossible to buy xdonex at a favorable price.

i would avoid ticket with aa if i can. i think it is possible to ticket with cx aa and qantas.

even of rtw desk is okay with this. not sure if rate desk will rate this as mpm doh lax is qr and gig jfk hkg is cx routing? (i think aa routing is via dfw).

As we know, the AA desk will not rate it because of the MAD-DOH segment, which AA is saying is not allowed (I am trying to get AA to see reason on this)

Other than that, AA would rate it as long as AA is the marketing carrier on at least one "over water" segment (meaning an inter-continental segment)
In the proposed itinerary AA could be the marketing carrier on any of these over water segments: JFK-SCL, GIG-JFK and JFK-HKG

Yes the GIG-JFK would be marketed and operated by AA.

Just spoke to CX in London and they advised that they would only issue a ticket if CX was the first carrier. So I guess it would probably have to be BA to issue then.

Past experience with trying to get QR to issue a ticket has been so painful I do not ever want to go there again!! :)

Thoughts on the following routing. MPM-DOH-CDG-LHR-DXB-LHR-KUL-HKG-JFK-SAO-JNB
No rentry into Europe/ME so all of the rules relating to backtracking... do not apply. I think that it is OK, but AA???

You should not have any problems getting this ticketed

As you say you are not re-entering Europe/Middle East so the backtracking issues that AA has will not arise- your itinerary is a simple Africa-Europe/Middle East-Asia-North America-South America-Africa

I have been frustrated with the AA RTW desk this year at every turn trying to book from MPM! In the past I have booked 6 RTW with them from JNB and before ex BKK ( x2 if you count my wife..)
I have run into a brick wall on transiting DOH on the departure onward to Asia or Australia from MPM and returning with a transit of LHR on the return to JNB.

Do they actually READ their own rules? Where is Meridith when I need her?

What RTW have folks been able to buy that leaves from MPM Maputo, since The One world tool is not updated with the new rules and will not price a QR flight on the first segment from MPM.

I was flying back to JNB just to end in the same continent: Africa.

I have given up on JNB, with the new fare increases and the dollar dropped against the Rand in the last 24 hours.

I am just getting up to speed on the new RTW rules and fares and prices.

I want to grab one of the MPM fares before they are doubled. I wish to do an AONE4 or AONE5 perhaps a 6. I missed out getting an ex KRT ticket issued before the increase, so I am working like crazy on this one. It is much more difficult now having to name the exact routing before ticketing. In the past one could just pop in any routing and dates then change afterwards.
I will go back and re read the past years posts.

my one ticket is enough to requalify aa exec plat already, so, my marginal utility for one more ticket is lower.. perhaps, i will use it for ba gold guest list (i have no status for ba, but i have status with jal as well which i have no plan to requalify as i am in jgc already.)

Your proposed itinerary looks OK to me and AA should ticket itcontains no flights between Europe and Middle East and is pretty much the same as myAnother way to ensure ticketing is to not have the backtrack to Europe in the itinerary. If your itinerary goes West around the world then you can return to Africa at the end with either HKG-JNB or SYD-JNB. Alternatively if your itinerary heads East then you can return to Africa at the end with GRU-JNB

Do we know if AA would be willing to re-ticket an AA issued DONE4 which had AA for LHR-LAX and DFW-HKG but which is being re-routed and won't have any "over water" segments with AA? I need the re-route but I'd also like to avoid AA marketed flights as there's an uncertain and very probably lesser number of RDMs vs flying other airlines and crediting to AA.

my guess is yes. but even if it is a no, it is still a great deal, and u can credit the aa segment yo other program
