Does anyone have any updates on when Aer Lingus is due to join OW?

Probably when BA buy them. If they buy them, that is.

There is a great deal of discussion on this topic in the BA forum:

That would be "rejoin" for those of us with long memories...

A few months after IAG are able to purchase them, if that goes ahead.

Do oneworld Emeralds get any benefits on Aer Lingus at the moment...now that they have confirmed their intention to join? Or must we wait until the actual joining date?

You have to wait until they join, unless your member program has another deal with them (eg, QFFF currently earns points, but no status credits or lounge access)

Depends on the OW program. You can accumulate miles on certain fares, but that's about it. BA/IB may start offering benefits before the official joining date though.

I wouldn't be too eager about them joining personally. Awful airline.

But for a SH positioning to DUB for ex-DUB sales tickets, still useable

Of course, we know Aer Lingus won’t be joining oneworld anytime soon:

“We have no plans to join oneworld. We still have to do the business case for joining oneworld,” Aer Lingus CEO Stephen Kavanagh said Tuesday at the European Aviation Conference in Dublin, according to the Irish Independent. - Nov. 15, 2017, USA Today
But according to American Airlines CEO Doug Parker, AA (IAG?) seeks adding EI to the transatlantic AA-AY-BA-IB Joint Business Venture next year. Not much use to oneworld, nor probably to AA flyers - if AA marketed codeshares operated by EI sell at a premium over EI fares. Link to View From the Boarding Area Article.

I thought oneworld connect would be for EI as well, so EI can choose to only work with some OW carriers, i. e., AA, BA, IB, AY, and perhaps the one they maintain FFP relationship with, CX and QF?
