OW Emerald Lounge Access to BA Galleries
I am a CX OW Emerald. Recently I flew the route IAD-LAX on AA for the first time. I did not realize there was no longer an AA lounge at IAD. When I tried to access the BA Galleries Lounge as an Emerald, the attendant turned me away stating that OW Lounge access at BA Lounges is now only available to Emeralds traveling on an international itinerary. Is this true?
I have traveled on many OW international and domestic flights and never been turned away from OW Lounges of other airlines. I looked at the BA website and it had no mention that they limit access for their gold flyers to international only. I followed the links to the OW lounge web page. It mentions the international requirement for first/business class travelers but for Emeralds it seems to indicate the lounges should be open to all Emeralds on OW-marketed flights.
Was this just a mistake with the attendant or is BA now limiting lounge access? Had I known this problem, I probably would have booked a Star Alliance flight as I can use the IAD LH Senator Lounge as a Star Gold.

The agent was wrong.
The policy stated on BA's site is very clear about it:
Lounge access is available to Emerald and Sapphire level Members of any oneworld airline frequent flyer programme.
Additionally, the Oneworld policy has similar wording and lists all exceptions - CX emeralds on domestic US itineraries are not listed as exceptions.
What she said would be correct if the lounge she was responsible for was an AA Admirals's Club and you were an AA EXP on a domestic itinerary.

It is beginning to seem pretty clear that the BA Lounge attendant at IAD simply did not understand BA's own policy. I sent BA an internet complaint; their response was that they are sorry I was denied access, I should also feel free to complain to CX, my home carrier, and they then sent me a copy of BA's lounge access policy. The response was basically talking right past me because their own lounge policy makes no mention of a reason why their BA IAD Lounge should not have granted me access. It clearly leaves me with the impression I should have had access to Galleries First with CX Emerald status, card, and OW boarding pass in hand, whether or not the flight was domestic or international.
This is the first time I have ever been turned away from accessing a OW lounge as an Emerald and felt a bit helpless how to fight back when the moment was at hand. It was the first time in many years that I spent two hours waiting for a flight in a terminal with no lounge access.

This is interesting. I guess I had confused domestic AA lounge access rules with OW lounge rules. Is it correct that, as AA Emerald, I am entitled to use non-AA OW lounges on any domestic US OW itinerary?

No. Only non-AA Emeralds can. OP was a CX Emerald and should have had access. They would have been correct denying him if he held an AA EXP card.

Edit: Some similar questions (of mine) in the following thread:

Ok, thanks. To confirm, on an international itinerary, AA Emeralds should have access to non-AA F lounges in the US? I seem to remember that BA was never keen on that, however

That is 100% correct. An EXP on an international itinerary should have access to any oneWorld lounge. Domestic US or otherwise. BA do like to play the "lounge is full so no access for you" game though, or just plain stupid like the OP encountered.

Am wondering if something similar is happening at the QF lounge at HNL, as linked above
