Is this a DONEWC3 or DONEWC4?

I have been reading the rules and I am interpreting a DONEWC3 as being:

JNB-LHR-DXB-MEL-SYD-JNB?

If I transit in Dubai/Qatar does that count as a new continent?

"FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS RULE CONTINENTS ARE
DEFINED AS EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST INCLUDING -"

Unfortunately.

The following routing rule exists.

NOTE - FOR ITEMS 3/5/10 ON A DIRECT SINGLE PLANE SERVICE OR WHEN TRANSFER WITHOUT STOPOVER IS UTILSED BETWEEN SWP-EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST THIS WILL BE CONSIDERED A FOUR CONTINENT JOURNEY.

Whether you transit or stopover in Dubai does not matter - it's a DONEWC4
because of the rule Wasabi Tofu quoted

Even if you didn't touch DXB/DOH, you still touch LHR.

The only way to get a 3 continent fare is to not visit SWP (ie, use HKG-JNB)

I need to visit SA/UK and Aus. I have no need to visit either the Middle East or Asia at this stage.

Does not matter. If SWP is included its a 4 irrespective of if you get off the aircraft or if the aircraft transits (e.g SIN) or overflys (as the DOH rule)

Is it possible to get a DONEWC3 without visiting Europe/Middle East (eg, SYD-JNB-HKG-SYD) or is stopping in Europe required in the rules?
