If you're based in Asia you may want to consider Qantas. Points expire after 18 months of no activity, but activity is anything from a flight, to a hotel stay, a car hire, or downloading their search toolbar and earning points through that.

I can't stress this enough: Of all the programs, select whichever offers an activity-based expiration policy (BA, IB, QF, AA) AND has the most options of non-flying earnings wherever you live. The best source of non-flying earnings are affiliated credit cards, which generally come with good sign-on bonuses as well.
I do envy US-based folks for the opportunities they get with playing the CC game.

Since you're based in the US, you'd probably should stick with AA. As long as you use your credit card, there's no expiration to your miles.
