Advice on Extra Seat OW Ticket

Just purchased 2 RT Economy tickets for me and a friend
RDU - MIA AA
MIA - EZE LAN
EZE - IGR LAN Argentina
---
EZE - MIA LAN
MIA - RDU AA

We are both plus size...can fit into a seat with seatbelt but it's not comfortable, so the plan was to purchase a 3rd seat to share. When I ask AA to book a 3rd seat, they indicate they can only handle the AA portion, so when I call LAN, they indicated they can't do anything since I booked the ticket via AA.

Any ideas? Could I just buy an extra MIA - EZE - MIA ticket on LAN under my same name (or omit the middle initial, etc)? I can't even seem to assign seats on the horrible LAN website, so with my luck my seats wouldn't be together.

Just thought I'd ask the seasoned travelers here before I give up on having a comfortable flight.

TIA for any ideas or thoughts...

LAN has a comfortable business class. I took two very large friends with me to IPC last year and they were both very satisfied with the seating. Of course, business class will not be available on short runs.
