AY - Air Berlin baggage question

We will be travelling on Air Berlin to position ourselves for our RTW ticket exJNB. My wife and I are MP Gold - Saphire OW. We have our two kids with us.

What does AirBerlin do for baggage? We have a flight from BUD-JNB (BUD-TXL-AUH-JNB) last segment from Abu Dabi is on Ethiad but our ticket was purchased through Air Berlin.

Also - does anyone have a list of what each carrier does for Saphire in Oneworld re:baggage?

American Airlines does not give priority baggage with CX Saphire based on a flight my son and I took last week where our luggage was delayed.

Thanks - Kevin

From the oneworld explorer rules sheet:
Two free pieces of 23 kilos each shall be permitted. Additional allowances may apply. Refer to individual carrier websites.
My understanding is that AB gives only the oneworld status benefits identified on the oneworld page. Ymmv.
You can also check the AB forum here (asking those that frequent AB might yield better or more results):

There is no extra baggage allowance alliance wide for OW Sapphire, only OW Emerald. Priority baggage is not a OW benefit either.

AB seems to only give extra baggage allowance for their OW Sapphire (TopBonus Gold) members.

Some OW airlines do provide extra baggage allowance for OW Sapphire, such as AA, BA, QF.

Also, AY is Finnair. AB is Air Berlin.

AB's baggage policy is here: http://www.airberlin.com/en-GB/site/...et_lid=6760031

You will need to check what ticket type you have purchased, and what the baggage allowance for that ticket is.

OP's question is for the positioning ticket not the RTW ticket, so this does not apply.

I was told 1 piece per pax 23kg and 8kg for carry on. This was on a highly discounted "N" fare. Air Berlin does not do a very good job picking up Saphire status from CX yet.

That would be "FlyDeal" type. The luggage you have stated is exactly as described on the Air Berlin website. Extra baggage is €150 each per piece.

As I said, OW status does not give any alliance wide extra baggage allowance.

I'm assuming your CX Gold is a freebie from Amex anyway.. Some OW lounges are now refusing entry to these card holders.

I was answering this question from the OP as I assumed it related to the airlines he was flying on his LONE5.

I was pointing him to the rules in case he wasn't familiar with them (which entitles him to two pieces).

How about baggage check through?

I plan to spend my BA Avios to book a flight from Hong Kong to Helsinki on Finnair metal.

Then, I would like to make a separate booking for a connecting flight from Helsinki to Tegel on Air Berlin metal.

Do you think my baggage will be checked through to Tegel?

Anyone who have experience with the above flight combination?
