LCIR29SA ex-HKG
Hi guys,
I'm looking at a Circle Pacific for my trip to South America next year for the World Cup (from Sydney). I think, without having exact prices available, that a circle pacific + TAM Airpass will be cheaper than return SYD-SCL, LAN Airpass and TAM Airpass.
I'm planning the following itinerary
Syd-HKG (FF Points).
Then Circle Pacific
HKG-LAX (stopover)-LIM-CUZ (stopover)-LIM-SCL-MDZ (stopover)-EZE(Stopover)-GRU(stopover)-SCL-SYD(stopover)-HKG
From LAX I will fly return to LAS but this tips me over the 29,000 miles I believe so I'll buy that separately.
From GRU I will use a TAM Airpass for up to 8 flights in Brazil.
Now I was planning on booking through Qantas Sydney office as ticketing would be quite simple however I believe from an earlier booking 5 years ago that it may be cheaper to do it through AA RTW desk. Is this still correct? How would I pay AA in Hong Kong? Over the phone?
Any other suggestions for itinerary/rules being broken?

If you book / pay through QF in Sydney, you'll pay the Australian price instead of the HKG price. For a D fare thats a huge difference. Unsure of the L fare. ExpertFlyer will show the fares from Oz and HKG.
If you want the best deal, book through AA. Ring their RTW office and set up the itinerary (ie book flights). They'll advise on mileage. If you are right on the 29k miles, what you estimate via GCM and what the airline estimates can be wrong by up to 30 to 50 miles (can be either your favour or the airlines). Tell them you'll pay in HKD in HKG.
Next the tricky bit. Go to HKG (the AA office) and buy the ticket or find a travel agent that accepts your cc. IME, AA HKG won't take a fax or scan of your cc. AA is unlikely to give you a Ticket Time Limit (auto cancel if you have not paid after booking) more than a few weeks.

Doesn't the Oneworld tool (e.g. on oneworld.com) also issue the ticket? I suppose it would be on CX unless you can get an AA codeshare HKG-LAX on the first leg. Serious question, I've never had to buy the ticket online via oneworld.com

AFAIK the OW tool only does xONEx tickets.

Qantas quoted me close to the base fare price I've seen on wandr last week. The phone rep had to convert it from HKD too. I need to add taxes and surcharges though.
If I were to use AA RTW desk to set up the fare, what info would I need to give to a Hong Kong travel agent for them to process payment. Girlfriend grew up in HKG so would have friends who could pay on our behalf.

Just call Cathay Pacific's HK reservations number or email them your itinerary. They will book and take a credit card number over the phone. Far easier than calling AA then having to deal with their GSA.

On a related note for this thread. The rules have been taken down from the Oneworld website.
I've made contact with a travel agent to get an initial quote. Likely to go through AA for final booking though.
