Help with One Way oneworld Japan to Chicago
Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.
I know that this forum isn't used to find fares, but I was wondering if anyone had some general recommendations for my conundrum.
My company is purchasing me a flight back to their office in the states from Japan. They will only purchase a one way flight, even if the round trip and ditching the second part would be cheaper. It can be from anywhere in Japan, but the final destination needs to be Chicago. It needs to be anywhere from August 1st to August 20th, but the earlier the better.
I really want to fly oneworld for the miles, as it's my carrier. However, there doesn't seem to be any oneworld options that aren't ridiculously expensive due to the one way restriction. I think I could get them to pay up to $2500, although cheaper is better. How do I find oneworld one way international flights that aren't ridiculously expensive? I dreamed of flying this leg Cathay Pacific as $2500 seemed like a high upper limit, but I guess I was wrong?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Liz

Welcome to FT, LizSchwartz!
You are correct that FT isn't set up to be a fare finder so appreciate you wanting general feedback on routes that may reduce the pricing rather than asking others to find you cheap fares. However since this isn't a Mileage Run the topic really doesn't fit in to the Mileage Run Discussion format so will move your query over to the oneworld forum.

If you can get yourself to Seoul, and your company will pay for a ticket from there, AA has one-way fares from ICN-DFW for US$1358 in August, as opposed to US$3300 from NRT!
And yes, you fly from ICN-NRT on JL and get on the exact same flight from NRT that would have cost US$3300
Don't ask why; it's one of the many quirks of airline pricing systems.
Happy Travels.
