Trying to leverage OW Sapphire status

Hi All,

I fly ORD - AMM usually three times a year and have earned the RJ gold OW Sapphire status. Outside of my usual 3 trips to AMM I have some US domestic legs that i fly but mostly for pleasure, never enough to actually get status on on any domestic carrier. I fly out of ORD and so i try to fly AA whenever possible.

Now that i have the Sapphire status, i was wondering how i can leverage that status (outside of the benefits that are listed on the RJ or OW website). if i booked my next AA ticket and added my RJ FF number (instead of AAdvantage) what is the likelyhood that might receive an upgrade with Sapphire status ?

Thanks,

Highly unlikely. AA doesn't "op-up" very much, and you'd be behind AA elites who can upgrade with 500-mile e-upgrades.

However your RJ status will get you access to Admirals Clubs even when on domestic itineraries, something even AA EXPs (OW Emerald) can't do.

Detailed questions regarding AA elite practices and rules should be directed to the AA board.
