Visit Australia Fare and Return flight needed

Hello,
this is my first post, after i read a lot about different purposes...

BTW,
i m planning a trip from Europe to Australia / NZ but without return ticket.
My return will be probably later , like 6 or 8 months later.
So i m interested with the Visit Australia / Nz pass wich is provided by OneWorld Members but the following rule is not quite clear for me :
This fare must be booked before departure from country of origin, and in conjunction with return travel to Australia and New Zealand on oneworld member airlines.
source : http://www.oneworld.com/flights/sing...a-new-zealand/

Does it mean i need a return ticket for my country of departure ?
If someone has experience with this fare ....

Seems it is not easy to book this pass , airlines i contacted encounter difficulties to put me from france , then to tokyo and finally in australia/nz .

I tried Walkabout Pass , but qantas can't put me from Europe to australia via Japan..

May a Global Explorer would be worth...?

thank you so much if you can advice me in my choice to visit OZ/NZ from France Via Japan (1 week).

Regards

The cheapest fares are usually based on return travel. "Round World" tickets will only be issued if they take you back to the point of origin. Some of these tickets will not issue "open" dated sectors, but it is easy to put in a dummy date and change this later when you know when you want to travel (but there may be a change fee from nothing to hundreds).

A simple round world ticket may be from your Europe start point via NRT to SYD with a return to Europe via SFO. I have used such tickets and LH issues lots of them in Australia. But, LH may not be a cheap issue in Europe.

Make sure know the immigration rules for your planned stay in Australia and NZ. Your visa may stipulate a maximum stay and immigration officials may want to see evidence of your planned exit from the countries. Therefore declaring you wish to stay for 6 to 8 months without evidence of return travel may be problematic.

You might find individual fares in Australia and across to NZ may be cheaper than a Pass ticket. The Low Cost Carriers are Tiger, jetStar and Virgin Australia. Qantas and AirNZ can be cheap sometimes. Their respective web sites make it easy to get ideas of pricing.

I don't know much about the Walkabout Pass, but I believe it's for Trans-Pacific only. I believe you are misreading og and getting yourself confused. The OW Visit Australia / NZ Pass can definately be used for multi-cities - indeed this is what it's for. However, as you know, you need to have a TKT that takes you to Australia / NZ and then (back) to somewhere else to be able to use it. To further clarify, the OW Visit Australia / NZ Pass only covers the intra-Australia / NZ segments. You will still have to buy a separate round-trip or RTW TKT from any OW airline to be able to use it.
