It's been a while - RTW flight again!

Our family took a RTW flight back in 2008/2009. We obtained Platinum AA status before going with a quick weekend trip to San Paulo from Toronto (my daughter was 10 yrs old that weekend). We booked our trip just prior to the 16 segment rule coming into effect (we had 21 segments - paper yes but 5 extra segments on a budget was great). We have helped a few people trying to price their tickets in Toronto for various RTW trips over the years.

So our Platinum status has vanished, segments are 16 now, and the CDN pricing bonus ex-other countries is gone??

We have some new ways to get Saphire Status for lounge access again - easy and relatively inexpensive. We can leave via ex-JNB as we can easily make a positioning flight this summer.

Here's our initial thoughts.....

We could leave on a DONEx or LONEx from JNB. We would like to get to Bora Bora, Belfast (summer of 2014), Argentina, Nambia, Patagonia, Euorope.

We will come back to Toronto several times throughout the year. We will be in Budapest in July 2013 for a world paddling competition our kids will be in. From there we can get $500 flights to JNB which would allow us the opportunity to explore a bit more of South Africa this trip.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions - maybe an idea of something we have to see too!

I think you may have a couple of problems. AFAIK Namibia and bora bora are not accessible on LONE or DONE fares.

Prices ex-Namibia (WDH) are similar to those from South Africa.

Bora Bora is an issue with xONEs in that there's no Oneworld service from Tahiti to anywhere except Chile, so including Tahiti would require a surface segment between, say, Australia/NZ and PPT. You can use the Global Explorer product (mileage-limited) to get around the South Pacific, using Air Tahiti or Air Pacific (Fiji) flights as long as they're codeshared with Qantas flight numbers. But mileage limits might get in the way (34,000 max for business class, 39K max for economy.)

Re the Global Explorer ticket - just a point of clarification: as Gardyloo said, you can fly the QF codeshare on Air Tahiti Nui. However Air Pacific is one of the allowed airlines on this ticket - so no requirement to fly the QF codeshare on them

Also possibly of interest to the Toronto-based OP, Westjet is now one of the allowed airlines on this ticket

Rerouting Cruise

Anyone have any experience with cruise ships re-routing? Thought there might be something we could do to get to BoraBora and see a few of the islands as well.

We plan to come back to North America /Toronto a few times throughout the year this time to see our son who will be in school.

Thanks - Kevin
