Bru - nrt - pvg - hkg - bru

Hello all,

We are planning a trip to the following destinations, starting in Brussels (BRU).

Tokyo (NRT)
Shanghai (PVG)
Hong Kong (HKG)

and back to Brussels.

I understand the One World airlines cover this route without problems, but I do not seem to be able to find out if there is a special ticket that would allow us to fly this route. BA could be used between BRU and NRT, and between HKG and BRU. JAL flies from NRT to PVG and Dragon Air from PVG to HKG. When I go to the One World web site, it more or less tells me I need to contact each airline individually to get a price quote.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to FT!

To be able to help you better:
1. How long are you staying away from BRU ?
2. Which class are you opting for - F/C/Y ?
3. Which FFP will you accrue the miles to?

A RTW ticket (OneWorldExplorer) might be a good solution, but you need to be away for at least 10 days (from BRU), and ready to take the "other" way home - TPAC (TransPacific) + TATL (Transatlantic), consuming at least one day extra, but enabling you a stay in one or more North American destinations.

Examples:

Travelling in C or Y: BRU-HEL-NRT (AY) NRT-PVG (JL) PVG-HKG (KY) HKG-JFK (CX) JFK-BGI (AA) BGI-MIA-ORD-BRU (AA). This is still only using 9 of 16 possible segments, but accruing MUCH more miles, to use for future travel. Look at the stickies starting the OneWorld forum and get inspired!

Thanks for your reply, onobond.

We plan to be away for about 3 weeks, but have no intention to travel onward towards North America. So the idea is really to do

BRU-NRT-PVG-HKG-BRU

Is there a special One World ticket that would work for this or are we simply looking at buying several tickets from individual One World members? I tried to book such a multi-city ticket online through BA, but when I enter these cities I get an error that they do not cover this route.

Sorry for the newbie questions. I am trying to figure out how to book these flights without breaking the bank.

Regards

Are you wedded to oneworld airlines for your trip? Because if you're not, you can do the whole thing for around US$2,000 in economy (including all taxes, fees, etc.). One quick, but not necessarily the least cost, option is a combination of British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, ANA, China Eastern, and Brussels Airlines.
Fare 1: Carrier VS XHEUR BRU to TYO
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code N, X
Covers BRU-LHR (Coach), LHR-NRT (Coach)

Fare 2: Carrier NH YLNH TYO to KMQ
Passenger type ADT, one-way fare, booking code Y
Covers NRT-KMQ (Coach)

Fare 3: Carrier MU NLPX30J KMQ to SHA
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code N
Covers KMQ-PVG (Coach)

Fare 4: Carrier MU XLAP60HK SHA to HKG
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code X
Covers PVG-HKG (Coach)

Fare 5: Carrier VS OLEUR HKG to BRU
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code O, S
Covers HKG-LHR (Coach), LHR-BRU (Coach)

Thanks for the tip on the ITA site, Austinrunner!

The $2,000 cost is roughly the same what I would pay if I stuck to One World partners. Still it is great to be able to pick out flights from all airlines on the ITA site. With a bit of luck I should be able to find a economically viable combination that does not give my 10 hour lay-overs.

Thanks again!

Another way of searching: RTs are often cheaper than a series of OWs, they often allow stopovers at the hub of the carrier. Open Jaw tickets are in a similar price range.

You could look at an open jaw BRU-XXX-NRT and return HKG-XXX-BRU in combination with One ways in Asia.
Another option could be a CX open jaw to NRT / back from SHA with a stopover in HKG.

You could also combine an RT or open jaw with some of the airpass offerings.

Without a lot of experience it is pretty difficult to find and also book these kind of tickets. A good travel agent is worth his fees for these kind of trips.
