Question LAN Colombia not part of oneworld???

I was so excited to see a) LAN buy Aires and change over their planes and b) see LAN Colombia flights loaded on aa.com (well minus valledupar last time I checked)... that said LAN Col isn't part of one world with no mileage accrual/redemption :-(

Anyone see/hear of any plans for this to change?

I think this is in the midst of change.

I flew LAN intra-Argentina (SLA-AEP) on Dec 2, and the in-flight magazine, if I recall correctly, was talking about the very "new" LAN Colombia. It sounded as if they have just taken over an airline with a different name and renamed them. I get the impression LAN Colombia is headed for OneWorld, but whether it's there yet or when it is officially there that I'm not sure.

And meanwhile, aa.com has a history of being out of date on some stuff like this. So it may or may not be correct about the current status.

At least as of now it is not - http://www.oneworld.com/member-airli...ne-affiliates/. After CX's acquisition of KA, it took more than a year for KA to become a OW affilate, so it might take a while.

Confirmed LAN Colombia is part of OW

I had purchased a ticket on Aires in August but when it came time to fly, I got an email from LAN say that they were converting the flight number to LAN. I gave my AA # and it was entered in to system. When I went to check in on 12/15 it recognized my status and I was directed to Elite check in.

On my return from Bogota, on check in I was given Admiral's club admission tickets. I asked about how they managed to integrate Aires so quickly and the agent said that unlike LAN Argentina which was kept as an independant airline, Aires is being TIGHTLY integrated in the LAN's operational structure.

Did you get your miles credited to AA antzymandias

Although it may not be a fully paid up affiliate brother, it does have LA flight numbers, don't know about redemption availability but I would imagine it earns kms

Did you check the dates of the posts in this thread? You flew before this thread even started. The early posts in the thread say that it's not part of OW yet (as recently as December 22). It's only a post from Jan 10 (a whole two days ago) that says it now is.

Presumably, therefore, the change from not being part of OW to being part of OW occurred sometime between December 22 and January 10.

That doesn't mean, therefore, that flights "way back" in early December will necessarily count. It should, more hopefully, mean that flights in the near future will count.

I don't know that we have sufficient evidence that Lan Colombia is now part of Oneworld. What we have is a report that the Lan system seems to be granting some of the benefits of Oneworld status for these flights. We don't know if mileage is accruing nor if it is accruing as elite qualifying.
On the other hand we have the Oneworld webiste which doesn't list Lan Colombia as a Oneworld airline/affiliate and the Lan website which seems to indicate that it is not. It will occur one day but do we have solid evidence that that one day has arrived?

http://www.lan.com/es_co/sitio_perso....../index.html

http://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/pr...Affiliates.jsp for what aa.com is worth
LAN Colombia is currently not part of oneworld

yup...but my impression is that when the public changeover to LAN was made...a few days before my flight, that hey..I could get miles. They accepted the number at the a/p and the checkin desk was all LAN. Only after reading this thread did I see that "LAN Colombia" is /was treated separately than LAN as a whole.

Which seems awfully confusing from an end user standpoint. After all the planes don't say LAN PERU, or LAN xxx...they just say LAN...unless I missed something.

I flew LAN Peru in 2010 and had no problems with miles...so same thought process.

It's no big deal.. it would have just been more miles to donate. Miles are becoming irrelevant to me.....just redeemed the last of my miles on AA & Continental for two intl trips next year. Done with the mileage game.

Yikes! I'm more than happy to accept a donation.

LAN Colombia are definitely not yet a oneworld affliate yet - they may just be offering some reciprocal benefits as part of LAN .

With other LAN affliates, their oneworld affilation was announced in advance and dates set for them to become actual affliates. See this press releases from 2007: LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador to join oneworld on 1 April

That press release mentions that LAN Argentina was launched in June 2005 and LAN Ecuador in April 2003 - both were LAN affliates of course - but they didn't become oneworld affliates (and mileage earning opportunities) until much later.

I'd wait for the press release/announcement to be sure of earning miles in AAdvantage or other programmes. Factors that may delay that announcement are the LAN Group's switch from Amadeus to Sabre this year, and the LAN merger with TAM - the membership of the future LATAM Group itself has not yet been decided or announced.

What could the reason be for them to switch from Amadeus to Sabre....any idea?

Wish I knew. Most other oneworld carriers are in Amadeus - CX is actually moving to Amadeus this weekend from its own in-house CRS while AA is/was in the process of abandoning Sabre and having HP create a new CRS..

So CX reservations will now be seen more easily by BA/IB/QF/AY/RJ.. while LA ones won't.
