Lan ppt-scl
Hi All,
My wife and I are in the extreme early stages of planning an around the world trip in J, using AA miles on a oneworld award.
My question is, will it be hard to get J seats on LAN from PPT-SCL in an October/November period?
I suppose we can make this a multiple choice test, with the answers:
a) When hell freezes over
b) if you book 330 days out, you can find two seats
c) they're always available
Thanks.

The PPT - SCL flight runs only 2 times a week from PPT, and travels via IPC. The chokepoint would be the PPT - IPC sector. A stopover in IPC vastly increases availability for the continuing flight to SCL, as that service is often more than one flight a day (and ime that latter sector is between B and C, but closer to C).

Thanks. I don't want to discuss a stop in Tahiti with my wife, get her all worked up, and then find out that it's impossible (or nearly so) to get the seats we want, even with proper planning.
The stinky part is that we're coming from the west, and it looks like we can travel as far as AKL before having to purchase seats on TN directly. Unless I'm missing something.

If you're going to be flying PPT-SCL, then it would be a sin not to stop in IPC for at least a day or two. It won't cost you anything extra in terms of miles since you'd have to stop there regardless.

I've heard people talk about IPC, but don't know much about it. The segments won't be in an issue, neither will the mileage. If it's worth a stop, I'll stop
Now, one thing I thought I read somewhere, but can't seem to find it again... does AA allow a 15% "grace" on the mileage? That is, if you go over into the next tier by less than 15%, they don't charge you the extra?

If you go over by 1 mile, then you are charged for the next award level. No grace, no exceptions...

In my experience LAN does not load LA0834 PPT-SCL but loads LA0834 PPT-IPC & LA0834 IPC-SCL. Since the same flight number is on both flights AA couldn't book it as two segments. They would book LA0834 PPT-IPC & LA0842 IPC-SCL (departing on a different day).
As others mentioned, if you can stopover, might as well, and then the above is a non-issue. The PPT-IPC flight is only twice a week (Mon & Thurs), In Aug this year there was Oct award availability for at least one of the four flights every two weeks.
IPC-SCL had availability at least every-other-day.
In 2011 LAN will be adding IPC-LIM
