Using OW benefits from one partner while crediting miles to another?

Hello all. New poster to this forum, as I've typically spent most of my time over one the *A side. I'm in the middle of transitioning a lot of my flying to OW, specifically AA, with a new job. The only status I've got with OW is with CX, Marco Polo Gold / OW Sapphire, but since my flights are mostly going to be on AA metal I want to transition over. Question is, can I use OW benefits (lounges, priority checkin, etc.) with my CX card while crediting miles to AA, or will that cause no end of headaches? If need be can just credit to CX, but as I'm shifting most of my travel to the Europe side, doesn't make much sense for me to maintain my status with CX, right?

Yes, no problem. Book with the CX number in the reservation then change the number on the record to the AA one whilst in the lounge.

Or book with your AA number and carry your CX card with you. That way you'll get the CX benefits but won't have to remember to change your number before you fly. I do this all the time with QF and AA and haven't ever had someone question it, even when using CX or BA lounges.

As for whether to shift, remember that gaining EXP on AA will net you 8 eVIPs per year - quite valuable upgrade instruments for your European flying. And while you're waiting to get EXP the hard way (the only way to do so), check out the AA Platinum challenge that will help you get status quickly.

Peace.

Thanks for the info, all. Yes, definitely planning on doing an AA challenge. But, I've got a 11-segment LAN SA airpass booked before I'll be on AA metal again. So, am definitely looking for a way to use the lounges and such on that trip, but it'll be before I can complete the challenge.

Thanks again!

The problem with this is that, in the case of IRROPS or possible OPUPs, he will show as an AA paper rather that a CX Sapphire and would/should be treated accordingly.

OW carriers using Amadeus have two fields for FF numbers, one for mileage accrual, one for benefitts. You'll need to have the AA number (well, alpha-numeric) in the mileage accrual field, and the CX number in the benefits field.

If done properly, this will send the points to AA while telling thee operating carrier that you are a OW Sapphire.

I can't remember the commands off the top of my head, but I am sure number_6 will be along shortly to advise on this.

Fields are FQTS for status and FQTV for mileage accrual.
