DFW-ANC

Used search but couldn't find an answer, there was talk of being able to fly with AA from DFW-ANC again as part of a One World RTW starting this month.

Does anyone have any info on this as I would like to do this in July.

DFW-ANC flights are generally Summer only flights.

Historically have operated from late May through to end September.

In some years there have also been some single flight number ANC-DFW-ORD flights.

April is too early. Flights start in the middle of May (I think 13th this year). If you fly, make sure you sit on the right hand side of the plane for the better views of the mountains and glaciers.

Yes, you can fly and book this segment for July 2010. Just check aa.com, EF, or other search engine for schedules. When checking make sure you change your departure date to July, because if you leave it April nothing will show up for AA. Flight number is AA 278 departs DFW 3 PM and arrives ANC 7 PM.

As previously mentioned, these are seasonal flights so if you are actually planning for summer 2011, then the AA ANC schedules won't be released until October/November of 2010. If you are booking a xCIRn or xONEn prior to their release then you need to book open dated segments for segments whose schedules have not yet been released. This is NOT the case if you are wanting to travel DFW-ANC this summer as schedules have been released for summer 2010.

Note AA has also re-started ORD-ANC this year, with a slightly shorter season than DFW-ANC.

Also note that if a Global Explorer fits into your plans (GlobEx34 usually prices the same or close to XONE4) then Alaska Airlines can be used, and they serve Alaska year-round (duh) including a number of SE Alaska and bush destinations if you have the desire.

Good suggestion for the OP if it works with their schedule.

But word of warning, if one is booking open dated segments on OW products later this summer or early fall for summer 2011 (as an example) they may want to stick with the DFW-ANC route as there is probably less of a chance of it disappearing for summer 2011 than ex-ORD flights. For 2 reasons, 1) the ex-ORD flight was reintroduced this year which means its future relies on a good results and 2) AA always has partner flights with AS ex-ORD for everything but xONEn and xCIRnn (if it is even possible within the mileage restrictions of a CIR ticket). Now this doesn't mean that AA would not drop ex-DFW ANC flights in 2011, but those flights have been around for a while and IMO there is a much lower probability on that occurring. There is always some risk associated with booking open dated segments for seasonal flights, or any flights with limited service for that matter.

Thanks everyone that will work in perfectly as I have 2 unused segments so I can just change my HNL-LAX to HNL-DFW then add DFW-ANC. Planned returning by ship to SEA for my next flight anyway.

MIA-ANC

You can also book AA # 278 MIA-(DFW)-ANC if you like as 1 flight segment. I just did last night. It helps that I live in MIA, too.
