AA Ruby flying to SIN

Any opinions on CX via HKG vs JAL via NRT?

I was going to purchase Prem Economy on JAL, but looks like they are sold out on my travel dates and I can't pay J.

Thoughts?

From where? Quite different answers depending on whether you're starting in LHR, PEK, SYD or JFK!

Well since the OP has a home airport of Austin TX, I will assume that a starting point in the USA is his preference.

As JL don't have Y+ availability USA<->Japan, I would say it depends on 2 things.
1. Do you have the miles and $$ for an upgrade of AA metal to NRT
2. In straight economy which is the cheaper routing? via NRT or via HKG

Note that you would probably want the AA code shares in both cases....
Or your mileage earning would be limited

Happy wandering

JL719 (NRT-SIN departs at 10:55) and JL710 (SIN-NRT departs at 22:40) uses a 777-200ER with W51 configuration, which is a 3 class config (Y, PY, C) used for long-haul flights. PY cabin is used as Y on both flights. JAL opens up certain seats in the PY cabin for OW elites. But you probably won't make the JL719 connection though. That's one of the pros to fly on JL if your itinerary includes these two flights.

By the way, transpacific upgrades on JAL is only 10,000 JMB miles one way till end of March. If you have ways to get those miles, it's also another option.
