Flying LAN in Argentina
If you ever want/need to take national flights in Argentina be sure
to fly LAN. First of all you can earn miles on AAdvantage and most
important of all, it's the only reliable airline down here. (NEVER EVER even
consider flying Aerolineas Argentinas - worst airline
)
Miles earned on LAN are doubled if you're PLT or EXP and they add to your account. A simple flight from Buenos Aires (AEP) to Salta in Northern Argentina (SLA)
is 791 miles ...

yes and no
First off, LAN is a much better airline than the alternatives serving argentina, chile, peru, and ecuador. But there are a couple big downsides. First off they make you buy a foreigner fare, which is a lot more than residents. And they actually CHECK to see if you're a foreigner. Secondly, you don't earn many miles, because within south america most fare classes earn %25 or %33.
With aerolineas argentinas and other domestic airlines within argentina, you can buy a residents ticket, which are much cheaper, and they DO NOT CHECK to make sure you have a DNI (argentine residents card).
I make a point of trying to fly Gol within south america, because i earn miles and it's a decent airline. But beyond that, LAN's only benefit to me as EXP / OW Emerald, is lounge access.

I haven't taken any other airline within Argentina, or South America for that matter, but I must agree that LAN in general is very good.. much better than a lot of other international carriers I have taken..

If you can do 3 legs or more I suggest the Discover South America fare, it books into V or Y so you'll earn 100% RDM (or + Bonus for elite) and EQMs

As EXP however you earn minimum 250 points / 500 miles for national
flights on low-fares and actual points / miles for higher fare classes.
