How would this work?

Okay now I was just thinking about the following and how much it would cost and what problems there would be, I am not claiming it would work rather I was just putting it out there to see if anyone has ever done this or even thought about it/

As follows

If I was to purchase a Done4 ex AKL

Fly say akl-syd-lhr

then cancel the ticket, how is the refund worked out is it based on segments flown or what and how much would this cost, I am not sure on the exact cost of Done4 ex AKl but say $12,000 NZD

I would lose 5% on canceling the ticket plus whatever other fees, but does anyone have a rough estimate on what the net cost would be and whether it would be a smart way to go, now I realise airlines take months to refund money but if you had the spare cash, could it be an economical way of getting to where you want to go?

Then purchase another DOne4 ex say poland costing 8000 and fly back to Australia

I wonder how much the return business class ticket to Europe would cost? What are the issues involved here? I don't know the fare refund rules that well.

If you fly AKL-SYD-LHR and then cancel, they'll refund the ticket (in full, less whatever cancellation penalty applies) -- and then charge you for a full fare one-way ticket AKL-SYD-LHR, which will probably be more than the entire DONE4. Sorry, your scam ('rort', if you're antipodean) won't work.
