Upgrading Using Son's Miles

My husband and I would like to upgrade to first class on our DTW-LAS flight. I have enough miles in my WP account to upgrade my ticket but my husband does not. (we have separate confirmations if that matters) My 17 yo son who is not traveling on this trip does have enough miles. Is it possible to use the miles from our son's account to upgrade my husband's ticket? Or do we have to go through the transfer miles process which costs $$$?

Thanks. I tried calling NW but got tired of waiting on hold tonight.

Yes, you can use your son's miles to upgrade another person for your flight if the fare class of your ticket allows for upgrades from coach to first class.

In the manage my reservations screen, select WorldPerks Mileage Upgrades, then log in as your son for the account the miles are coming from. Select the flight you want to upgrade, you can choose both outbound and inbound or just outbound. At this point, if there are upgrades available it will be able to confirm it for you.

Just a side note, if you are on the 3:30 or so PM flight out to Vegas then you will only get a cold sandwich meal, the other 3 flights, the 9AM (hot breakfast), 12 noon (hot sandwich meal), and the 7PM (hot dinner) will get full meal service.
