Flying First Class to India

I am a NWA Platinum Elite and and planning to fly SFO-DEL-SFO this winter. I have 6 upgrade coupons which can be used only if i buy a Y/M/B fare. I do have enough miles in my account to fly FC.

My question is which is the best option?

1. Buy Y/M/B fare and use the upgrade coupon
2. Use miles

I know buying and then getting the upgrade will be expensive. So i just wanted to get an advice as to what fellow FT's think?

Thanks

Availability of Perk Saver is the kicker... if you can find that grab it. Otherwise M fare + PMU isn't bad.

Book quickly. Flying to Delhi in December/Jan means ABSOLUTELY full flights and high fares.

If you can get this for 120k miles, go for it. I'd suggest trying to go via AF and KE -- they should be able to get you there with only one stop. Delta could also do this through ATL.

If you don't mind two stops, you should try 9W (jet airways) through brussels (SFO-CDG-BRU) or london (SFO-MSP-LHR). They won't check 9w for you unless you specifically ask them, and you can't book those flights online (at least you couldn't the last time I flew to india.

I called up NWA platinum line and as per them nothing is available starting mid Nov to mid Jan for award tickets. I know it's the busiest time to fly to India. So does that mean i have to buy the ticket? Any suggestions?

Kingfisher is coming out with several new flights shortly that may allow you new connections / combinations from the US to India via DL and IT flights. Check a recent thread which discusses these new IT (code sign for Kingfisher) flights...

have you considered Air India? You can often get a first class ticket for less than coach costs on NWA/DL. And way less than a full-fair coach ticket.

Thanks doglover!
Have you ever booked with them? It looks like an interesting site to see all the consolidator's fares.

I am trying to fly Sky team as i am platinum there and will get 100% bonus. But the cheapest fare is coming for Star Alliance

Any other suggestions ?
