Coca-Cola drinkers....REJOICE!

I just got the word from one of my son-in-laws:

Starting August 1, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Michigan (his employer) will begin delivering 30 pallets of assorted products weekly to NW/DL at Detroit Metro airport for catering the NW aircraft departing from there!!! Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, and more are on the way!

I asked, but he did not know if this changeover was also going to take effect at MSP, MEM, and any other airports where NW planes might be catered. I won't make any assumptions, but maybe others have heard more news on this. As I am sipping my Coke by the lake today, enjoying my vacation, it is good to know that there are less than 30 days until I can begin sipping a Coke on my Northwest flight also!

A sad day for me. I almost have to consider switching airlines to avoid Coke Why can't more airlines be like AA when it comes to drinks?

I posted regarding the Coke changeover 2 weeks ago...the deal is the changeover is not a hard date. Northwest is currently depleting its supply of Pepsi products. So depending on where the catering is and when Northwest's Pepsi supplies are gone, then Coke will appear.

This disappointed me about a week ago. I was flying internationally in WBC and was excited to see coke featured on the menu. When I asked for a "coke", I was instead given a pepsi with no explanation. It wasn't until I looked more carefully at the tiny type at the bottom of the menu which stated that NW operated flights would still feature Pepsi instead of coke.

Since it seems like about half of the population prefers Coke and the other half prefers Pepsi, it is too bad the airlines and other places are only able to offer one brand due to their marketing agreements. I wonder how much NW/Delta receives from Coke to exclusively offer their products? Is it just free soda or are there other benefits for NW/Delta as well?

I prefer diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew so this really isn't the best news for me!

I'm a Pepsi drinker. To offer one to the exclusion of the others is disappointing.

numbers can be staggering. It is almost certainly at least a low 8 figure per year deal (possibly more) for "marketing". It's really just a cash rebate based upon how much is sold usually w/no strings attached. While it sounds like a lot to us, remember, Coke is selling sugar water for a large amount of money, even when it's sold in bulk syrup boxes.

There is really big money in soft drinks.

I'm SO EXCITED I CAN BARELY STAND IT! I love Coke Zero, Its one of the best things to ever happen. I simply cannot wait to get on a NW bird or a NW bird thats newly painted and pop open a Coke Zero or maybe have it as a mixer with some liquor. I also can't wait for the Pepsi fountain at the SEA WC/SC to be yanked out and replaced with something that pours Coke Zero YESSSSSSSS!

I don't care for either. I prefer Alaska Airlines who serves Jones Soda made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup garbage.

The big problem here is that Coke doesn't offer a Dew equivalent.

Oh well, just means I'll have to drink more wine. I win!

Boo!

I am ok with the Coke thing, but there is no substitute for a Mountain Dew, or a Diet Dew.

The Jones stuff AS serves is ok. I feel like it goes flat really really fast. Like within 5 minutes. I like that they are supporting a PNW business, but Jones is in dire straights. We stopped carrying their stuff at Starbucks. Other than their accounts at Qwest Field (Seattle Seahawks) and Alaska Airlines they'd probably be toast. I think they recently laid off 1/3 of their employees.
