code-share flight number question
What's the whole point of a code-share between NW and DL now? Correct me if I am wrong - one can earn WP miles flying on a non code-shared DL operated flight and vice versa.
Are there any distinct advantages to the passenger if he books a flight with a code-share's flight number rather than the operating airline's flight number? For example, ATL-DTW is operated by DL1080 with a NW code-share number NW4805. I am a NW WP PE; does it do any good to me if I book the flight as NW4805, rather than as DL1080?
On a side note, I don't see any DTW<->ATL NW operated flights anymore for travel in July. Are they all gone for good or will they return in the near future? I was hoping to score a few PE upgrade guarantee bonus miles.

DTW-ATL is fully operated by DL now. That change took place a couple of months ago?
There's not really a reason for Code Shares now, though I have found (still) that flight prices will differ on the sites like Orbitz, Expedia, etc. on DL codeshares on NW metal versus the NW numbered NW metal.
Case in point: ORD-DTW, 7/31/09, one-way ticket found on Orbitz.
ORD-MSP-DTW on NW Metal, DL Flight number $90
ORD-MSP-DTW on NW Metal, NW flight number $570
Both itineraries were on NW metal 1721/1464.
Use this to your advantage I suppose, if you would like to have the additional miles!
As for which DTW-ATL flight you should book, I'd wager to guess you're better off booking the DL number. There are rumors (almost proven?) that NW codeshares are bottom of the totem pole for upgrades?
