SWUs
As NW Platinums will be getting 6 SWUs this year I am wondering if they can be applied to the Continental B SEA-NRT $590 fare?
Routing is SEA-IAH-NRT-IAH-SEA booked on Continental's web site.
Continental automatically upgraded SEA-IAH and IAH-SEA.
It is booked as Continental Flight CO7 IAH-NRT and CO8 NRT-IAH in B class.
If one were to Book thru Northwest's web site it shows flight # is 6007 and 6006 operated by Continental.
I have heard through the Mileage Run Forum that you can also upgrade with 30,000 miles roundtrip.
Anyone have a definitive answer regarding Platinums can use SWUs (preferred) or Miles to upgrade these flights to Business Class and how soon you can do so.

Travel can be on Northwest Airlines or Northwest Airlink flights numbers 1-1999 or 3400-3699 as well as KLM flights number 1-999/6000-6900.
Looks like can't use SWUs for Continental 6007 or 6006.

I don't think CO B class lines up withthe NW/KL B class anyway.

No, you cannot use NW SWU's for CO-operated flights. The SWU's are for NW and KL operated flights only.
You can try to use miles for an upgrade but you should call Continental first and confirm that mileage upgrade space is available before booking your flights.
Since CO just changed their reservation system (January 21, 2009), I believe a NW B fare now matches to a CO B fare. They are both second in line, behind "Y".

this was a CO B fare which matches to NW B and is NW metal, SEA-NRT. Opushomes is reporting that this is non-upgradeable with miles, as it is CO-ticketed, even though NW-operated. This is not written out anywhere at nwa.com, and is a little disappointing, since there does appear to be availability and I've got miles to burn.
sorry, I realized this thread was regarding SWUs and not miles, but I wanted to clarify that this fare included NW metal flights, as well.

I don't think that should be correct, but maybe life has changed. I have used NW miles several times to upgrade CO coded NW operated flights. It was MSP-LGW (MSP-IAH leg) of a few years back which seems to me is quite similar to the SEA-NRT flights currently at issue.

Has anyone recently successfully upgraded a Y or B fare using miles on a CO-ticketed, NW-operated flight?
