Award Booking Question/Problem

I am playing around with an award booking on NWA.com and can't get any flights to book unless they are on NWA metal. NWA.com gives me other carrier options with seat availability but it always comes up with an error when I book the return. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Flight info: (Dates vary but toward the end of schedule Aug 09)
LAX-BCN-LAX (connecting in AMS)

We would really like to do this:
LAX-AMS stay (25,000 miles)
AMS-BCN stay (12,500 miles)
BCN-PAR stay (12,500 miles)
PAR-AMS-LAX (25,000 miles)

I know the actual mile cost is contingent upon the discounted seats being available.

Can anyone give me some direction? Thanks in advance!

Are you are trying to book two separate award tickets under one reservation? If so at least use your one free stopover on one of the segments listed and book the rest as an open jaw. Then pick up a cheap one way to complete the trip. Save yourself the intra-Europe award charge.

Something like LAX-AMS(stopover)-BCN. Then PAR-LAX for the open jaw return. Find a cheap BCN-PAR oneway to get ot the open jaw return.

Else wise you will need to probably book the TATL as one award and the intra-Europe as another. That should make nwa.com happy if your dates work out.

Thank you for the info. This sounds like it should work. My actual dates will open in about a week so I'll book then. I got excited when it let me chose flights like LAX-AMS(stop)-BCN(stop)-Venice(stop)-PAR(stop)-AMS-LAX for 87,500 miles. Oh well, I will take the above suggested routing for 50,000 and be happy.

You can fly from Barcelona to Paris Orly on EasyJet for a shockingly small amount of money.

Followup: I'm booked on AF LAX-LHR-CDG returning VCE-CDG-LAX on the dates we wanted. Now I only need to wait for 11 months.
