Thinking of Bus class to CHINA--

But from the reviews,it appears that the seats are very uncomfortable and personal videos are broken and obsolete on the older 747's--
As I dont see very many complaints on this board, asking for advice!
THANKS

Are you flying WBC or Y? I just did LAX-NRT-HKG-NRT-LAX in WBC and the AVOD was working just fine on all legs. The WBC seats are almost lie flat and worked just fine for me. The service and food was good and I had no trouble sleeping most of the way to NRT. In Y there is no AVOD it's the old screen on the wall system. If you're going WCB to China you won't have any problems.

Totally agree. I do it very often (6-8 times per year) and have never had an Avod issue. LAX is one of the few routes left with a 744 so if you fly out of SFO, SEA, PDX you will be on a 330 and that has Avod in the back as well as the front. WBC seats are very comfortable. In my estimation the most comfortable non-pod BC seats out there.

Welcome to FT. The business class seats that had issues with videos have been replaced with new seats. There shouldn't be any problems compared to before.

Seats are comfortable IMHO.

If you're using DL miles to acquire tickets in Y, you'll be flying in coach. DL award tickets on NW are not upgradeable.

NW has just one configuration of 747-400. NW's promo link follows.

This is what I was referring to --have the 747 out of Minn, also been changed out--the reason I ask is that --this flt is the only 'PERKSAVER'--
btw thanks

Unfortunately that is one of the 744 routes as well. See if you can get routed across SEA and you will get the 330.

If the OP is in WBC it really doesn't matter if its the 330 or 744, the seats and the AVOD are the same. Personally I prefer the 744 because I like the upper deck seats. I've noticed the 330 routes are sometimes harder to find award seats on because there are fewer seats in WBC.

As far as the OP's original question. The seats really aren't uncomfortable at all. The AVOD is reliable though the selection of videos is really lame compared to many other airlines with AVOD. I still end up watching DVDs on my laptop. The power port for the computer tends to be unreliable and useless as often as not so don't count on that. NW chose a very poor design for that part.

Overall, NW business class is fine, you'll enjoy the experience, however having said that, I'd look for availability on Korean Air before I took the NW ticket. KE uses their new seats from JFK, IAD, ATL, LAS, LAX (except flt 1/2), SFO, SEA, ORD (except this summer). I think you will find the KE experience to be miles above NW from a service standpoint plus the AVOD is much better.
