I should point out that we TURNED IN the 2 WBC Saver awards we'd booked around Easter because Lex found some cheap coach seats to pay for...
sigh.

Persistence is definitely key. Check at least once a day, (twice at most to keep yourself from procrastinating too much,) even after you have booked. Example: I just booked MSP-LHR roundtrip for this summer, saver J one way and saver Y the other. But originally I could only find the saver J, and had to get pass Y on the return leg. But after keeping the search going, a couple days later I found that I could return a day early and get saver Y because a seat had opened up, so I bit the $25 change fee and saved myself the 25k miles.

It would interesting if people would post something like the following, using similar definitions and as close as possible to the following...to compare how my experience has been with others.
I flew about 20 times to Asia in the past 8 years. 36% of those were free trips (award). Average airfare per trip (including the free ones in the calculation) therefore came out to about $700 per trip. (I didn't include the award booking fees here). I was silver, gold, or platinum during that period. And some of my trips were "rulebuster" (but only on one leg of the trip). I think I made out pretty good! How did i do?
