side question

I would look this up myself, but the search function isn't working. ...

Are AS upgrade certs transferrable? Can they at least be used for a companion?

Nobody mentioned or asked for certs.

They may be able to do this for you as well.

The SECRET (not anymore!! :D) way to upgrade on Alaska is to call their res. line the day before the flight & tell them you will be upgrading using a NW cert. They rarely ask for the cert #, they just take your word for it and do it!! Space permitting, they have always done it for me on the spot. ALMOST ALWAYS the people checking you in wont ask for the cert. If they do ask, just show them your Platinum card, some charm, and cross you fingers. The girls at SNA are pretty friendly and have never "downgraded" me due to lack of cert. They have only asked for it once out of over 20 flights!!

Actually, that's not all that great. What WOULD be great is if they gave us more than 8 certificates a year. Now that the "secret" is out, it's very possible that a bunch of non-gold and non-plat elites will just call up, get their upgrades, and never have to produce certificates or cards... (not that I would have done this ;) )

Just being greedy, that's all.

Certs

This does seem unreasonable. We should have them by the beginning of the FF year. And why not just send them to everyone instead of making us request.

How do AS MVPs get upgrades on NW? I increasingly think NW is much better to other elites (CO, AS, others?) than they are to us.

I don't think kidvantage was suggesting that AS agents would upgrade WP members w/o checking their status, but rather that a WP gold or plat can get the upgrade without actually producing a certificate.

I spent a lot of time w/NW on the phone yesterday (3 different agents) and all of them had heard of the free cerificates, but none of them could tell me anything about them.

I just made Silver, and will make Gold this weekend. Can someone please tell me what I have to do to order my free AS upgrade cerificates?

abaraff Apr 8, 2004 10:50 am

925: Once you make gold, log on to nwa.com and go to WorldPerks > Elite Program > Special Offers and you'll find a link for requesting certificates. Once you request them, all that's left is to play the waiting game.

Thanks, abaraff!

This was what was causing the confusion yesterday: (On NWA.com if accessed by a SILVER member)

The letter included in your 2004 Silver Elite credentials indicated that Silver Elite members are eligible to request Alaska Airlines upgrade certificates on nwa.com. This statement was printed in error. Alaska Airlines upgrade certificates are valid for Gold Elite and Platinum Elite members only. We apologize for this error.

So I was told the whole program was cancelled, I was told that any elite could get them, and I was told to keep looking on the website (that they don't have access to).

I now understand, and will request my certificates Monday morning! Thanks!

I confirmed tonight with the elite line that e-certs are going to be sent out via E-Mail to Gold and Plat Elite members.

We are going to print them out and present them to AS at the airport.

The certs will still be limited to a one time supply (the same as last year - based on status)

The emails should be going out in the next two weeks (according to the elite agent I spoke with.)

Okay, that's just silly. TWO weeks? To get an e-mail out to us?

doglover Apr 8, 2004 11:16 pm

one time supply?

How are emailed certs going to be a limited to a one-time supply?

925 Apr 8, 2004 11:18 pm

Well, one way would be to use one-time-use unique serial numbers.

Alpha Golf Apr 9, 2004 11:04 am

Well?

And if they were going to be emailed, why didn't they do it on March 1? I love NW, but this is a slipup IMO. (May be AS' fault of course -- who knows?) I wonder if AS premiers are losing privileges on NW too?

Thanks, RC!

Nice to know! Thanks ^
