need 5000 miles relatively quickly

I find these kinds of lazy posts (done without searching the archives) so distasteful.. but I am in the midst of a unfolding family situation and hope someone can offer some quick advice.

The former partnership between NW and Sprint has me at 19,402 dormant miles.

ANY quick way to turn this into something usable?

Do I understand DL is a NW partner? I have a dormant 21,686 with DL.

Might need to get someone down here quickly from MSP soon. Seems a natural path.

Please help a Dallas Flyertalker who, for obvious reasons, is more AA and WN than NW.

In advance, my sincerest thanks.

The quickest way is usually iDine. Sign up at http://diningformiles.idine.com, spend $500 at iDine restaurants that earn 10 miles/$, and you've got your 5000 miles. Sign-up is instant and it only takes a couple days for the miles to post after you spend your money.

DL is indeed a NW partner now, but you can't transfer miles back and forth. If you can 25k DL miles, though, you might be able to get a NW award ticket with your DL miles.

Or you could just buy the ticket. Trying to amass miles in a hurry (in the hope that a standard award will be available for the day you want on short notice) is a risky proposition.

I can get you a ticket for 21,000 miles for a fair trade if you're interested. That would save you $140.

I hope you all realize the incalculable 'hassle factor' you mitigated. THANK YOU for the quick info.

I'm deep into Idine with AA already so will look toward the purchasing option, if I don't have time to wait for Visa bonus to post.

Again, thank you.

You can do Idine with more than one airline (different cards). You can also switch card to different airlines and back. Why not just do Idine with NW for a short bit and then go back to earning with AA?

Actually, you can't switch your ONLY card to a different airline. If you have two or more cards in a given airline's iDine program, you can leave just one of them there and switch all the others.

If you have a credit card you never use and never even plan to use, you can add that to the iDine program you want to remove the "only" card from, then remove the formerly "only" card, and add it at another program. But you always have to have at least one more card than the number of different iDine programs you're in to be able to move cards between those different iDine programs.
