Well, they already have your money. I can't imagine them doing anything for not picking
up the car.
I got a great deal on a NW package from DTW to AMS. The trip is less than
2 weeks away with no Sat. night stay. The flight alone is pricing at $2716. However,
I only paid $480 for the flight as part of a NW vacation package. The hotel component was a
little over-priced, but the flight savings
more than made up for it.

That is what I thought too... it gets better.. the flights that I am getting with the package are direct flights... these flighs are pricing at $1570... called northwest and she said they are charging fully fare because it is less than 7 days... she said cheaper fares were not sold out, but because of the late booking she couldn't sell them. That is insane!!!
One more question.. is there a mileage bonus for booking a package?

Last year I did a NW vacation to London. There was 3 of us and we split the car rental. The airfare was $329 and each person's portion of the car was $30. So total cost was $359.
If we would not have gone through NW Vacations, the airfare would have been $525. We never picked up the car and it was never a problem.

We just completed a similar vacation purchase, but didn't stay in the NWA selected hotel.
No problems and mileage seems to have credited correctly.

When we looked into going to Jamaica, the package was limited to air + hotel as they
do not rent cars there. I wanted to stay at a particular hotel that was not one of their options and so called the 800#. The agent suggested that I book the minimum nights (I think 2) at the cheapest hotel offered, but not use it. She called it a "throw away". I don't see any reason this would not work with a car rental.

I'm considering the same thing: a throw-away hotel for Mexico. Has anyone had any experience in that country if I don't stay at the hotel? Also to save the most money, booking two on the itinerary is the best. Is it still possible to split the air record locator so I can get my upgrade if my companion is not elite?
