Upgrade question (yawn)

I just know this topic has been covered somehwere, and Upgrade Me will be the first to point it out, but here goes:

My wife and I are both Plats. We have a flight tomorrow in seperate record locators. She was upgraded 5 days ago, I was not (the gaul of that airline!). ITN shows P5 F0. Should I check in online for a better chance at snagging a seat up front, or am I better off waiting to see if the seats just open is on EUA? Will EUA automatically upgrade me if I am already checked in? My experience when this has happened in the past is that I typically get upgraded a day or two or three before the flight. I am now less than 24 hours and have not been in this terriroty before. Advice (besides performing a search for exactly this issue)?

In my experience EUA will not upgrade you after you check in. Although you will be at the top of the gate upgrade list if you check in early. I had this happen last week - only P seats available so I checked in online at about 30 hours before flight. Then I later noticed that there was an F seat available and called the Gold line to upgrade and since I had already checked in they could not change my seat. I was upgraded at the gate, though.

I would start the online check-in process, and then when it asks you if you want to be upgraded, click yes, and then I think it either says you were successful or puts you on a wait list. Then, cancel the process and maybe you might be on the WL and be eligible for the EUA since you aren't checked in.

In short, you can simply be unchecked in after checking in if F seats pop up.

Perhaps you should try doing your own research next time?

slippahs: Thanks--it took 1 hour and 31 minutes before someone (you) suggested "doing your own research".

It generally seems that if you are checked in online within the 30 hour window you have to watch ITN for seat openings because it will not automatically upgrade you. My guess is that seats will open up later tonight and the upgrade will--probably--take place via the EUA if I an NOT checked in online. If not, I can go to the airport in the morning as a Platinum and see what happens.
