I wonder if the workforce would rather have new uniforms or bonus check? :p
In any case, new uniforms are a long-term capital investment that improve image and employee morale. Bonus checks would be a short-term payment that wouldn't last very long. When it's gone, you'd be right back where you are today. |

I know DL hired a famous designer - forget who - but the employees love them!
It was revealed that the new Delta uniforms cost $1,000 per employee, or $20 million in total. "Richard Tyler, a designer based in Los Angeles, created the uniforms and they look pretty snazzy; glamorous but functional, especially compared to the drab grey coats of Delta last generation uniforms. We're not sure if they can go toe to toe with Christian Lacroix's new Air France uniforms, but to afford him, Delta would have likely had to reenter bankruptcy." |

Personally I think NW's F is much much better than DL's (yes I've recently flown DL F-snacks are a joke), the current uniform standards are very old - I'm sure the employees will appreciate it and it'll give the public a better image of the company (it's a touch point)
I think new uniforms are a good idea. |
If you poke around the Union's website you'll find they have been asking for new uniforms since late 2006. Although I don't think they were specifically looking for a new design, just new clothing for frontline staff.

Since employees receive new uniform pieces on a regular basis, the only additional cost of the rolling out new uniforms is the design and pre-production tests.

strange coincidence, last evening at MSP, passing in the other direction on a moving walkway I thought I saw what looked like a sharp new and different uniform on a flight attendant. I quickly assumed that my eyes were deceived and it was an employee for another carrier. and maybe it was.

If I am not mistaken, pictures of the new NW uniform have already been leaked!

That's funny, but also inappropriate for this forum.
Too much bad blood around here... |
If you think the new NW uniforms are bad, take a look at KLM's recent ones:

As to spending the money on improving the FC product, NW obviously is already doing that. Meals are improving on NW and going in the opposite direction on CO. I've been getting consistent pre-departure drinks on NW. If NW updated their seat covers and did a hot towel service I think they'd have CO beat. And DL's F meal service is a joke, except perhaps for long hauls, which I haven't tried. All in all NW seems like they're trying to improve while CO flyers are getting squeezed by the bean counters in IAH. |

Indeed. The current uniforms are dated and make the employees generally look unkempt. Done right, new uniforms make one look and feel more professional and can't help but improve service.

No way. :td: Why give the FA's a reason NOT to serve pre-departure drinks?! Some of us want something besides lukewarm bottled water.
Sorry about the strong reaction, but it (pre-departure service) is bad/inconsistant enough already. We don't need to encourage further deterioration in FC service. But they poured coffee for the pilots. For us, when asked, it was "after we get airborne." Then, back to the gabbing. I got the coffee mid-air. May as well give them uniforms that match/blend in with the background so we can't see them at all. |
Regarding a new uniform sighting... you very well could have seen a Compass FA. Their uniforms are charcoal grey with a blue shirt and scarf/tie. I understand the new NWA uniform will also be charcoal grey but with more color accent pieces. It's rumoured that the Mesaba FAs will also get new unis.
