Silver recognition timeframe?

Hey all,

Assuming my multi-city one-way back into MSP goes flawlessly on December 13th, I'll qualify for NW Silver on segments (31) for the first time.

I have an afternoon flight back out of MSP on December 14th. I've read elsewhere in this forum that recognition of initial elite status takes a few days after the qualifying flight is completed.

Is there any way to expedite this process? Am I doomed to 38-D for the 3-hour flight to Vegas?

Any input is definitely appreciated.

My experience is that recognition is actually pretty fast, but about the same as time frame for miles and segments to post to your WP account.

If you qualify for SE with flights on 12/13, they would normally post on or about 12/15. If you want the benefits of SE, you can call WP and ask that your account be updated manually and request the seats you want for the LAS trip as well.

YMMV -- they may tell you to wait for the system to post. If you get a good and experienced rep, they will likely go ahead and take care of it for you.

If you see that SE shows up under status on NWA.com, just go into the reservation, delete the FFP info and save it. Then go back into the reservation (it helps to note the booking code) and enter your WP number again. The reservation will show 'silver elite' beside the FFP number.

Sadly in your case the silver EUA run for a 2/14 departure will be already over on 2/12, so I wouldn't get my hopes to high for this one But you have a good chance on getting a 'free' exit row, if it is any consolation.

Once segment 30 is posted in your account you will have Silver status. No way to make it happen any sooner. LAS flight might be hard to upgrade anyway... I suppose you will have access to premium seats.^

Other reports in these threads, and my experience: status changes have appeared on the next day following the qualifying miles/segs posting ~ ie, weekend flights post on Tuesday & status on Wednesday.
It may be possible to manually force the system, but I don't recall any threads reporting success.

So... I'd say "doomed". Sorry.

..and.. the success rate for 're-entering your WP number' is not 100% either. Follow up on the phone. ^

I'd say you're SOL, sorry to say.

I've gone from dirt to SE, and SE to GE this year. In both cases, the status change hasn't been effective until at least a day after the miles posted. In all likelihood, if your flights on the 13th post on the 14th, your status will change to: 15Dec2007-29Feb2008 Silver Elite.

No delusions of grandeur about my Silver status in terms of upgrades -- just looking forward to being able to book exit row seats, not pay for RoachChoice, and pick up the bonus miles... any upgrades would be gravy.

Thanks for the responses all ^ ^

I would look at the seat map as soon as the SE qualifying segment posts and if an exit row seat was open, try calling to see if they'll move you.

Delta Posting and changed status

I just came back from a European trip to Stuttgart (26 Nov) and to my surprise, my Stuttgart Atlanta flight was already posted on nwa.com (26 Nov). I was on that flight only 9 hours ago. Delta flights are known to post early but didn't think it was this fast.

This flight qualifies me for Platinum Elite for 2008, but my membership shows the following:

01Mar2007-27Nov2007 Gold Elite
28Nov2007-29Feb2008 Platinum Elit

Even with the early posting of miles, I was told I will have to tolerate another day of Gold status before computer will officially recognize me as Platinum Elite.... There is still a one day lag in recognition of my newly earned elite status.

It's always that way. If it posted a week from now you'd still have to wait (8 days in that case including the extra day).
