First Time First

I have lots of points but usually fly coach so as to make them last longer. Now I have decided to treat myself to first class on a trip I will be taking this summer, domestic flights only. What I would like to know is whether flying first on a Northwest award ticket entitles me to use the lounges.

No, unless you live in Asia. Lounges are an extra expense. I have a 3 year pass but do not plan to renew unless they get ungraded with high speed internet access.

Frankly, they are OK but you can find quiet places at most major airports. When there is a delay (because of weather) the rooms are crowded and most close rather early.

The best rooms are by far Alaska Air and/or KLM in Europe.

With all due respect, why do you tink AS rooms are better, just curious? I am a Board Room member with AS, switching to NW WorldClub this year, I certianly think that AS BoardRoom quality has way down since I joined. AS BR does not have many dial-up access for notebook users, no hard liquors, the only free alcoholic beverages are Miller Litem Miller High Life, and something else thats domestic and awful, Cook's champagne (hahahaha!), and white and red wines of unknown origin. Sad! The drink limit is 3 beverages per person, and they do enforce it. Its truly sad when an airline has to cut corners like that (they used to have nice beers, wines and liquors for free, things change)

Concierges have changed as well, and I do NOT enjoy them any more. NW staff at Worldclubs are generally much nicer

KLM lounges have been downsized recently and offer practically of a little value to travelers. Crown Lounges are not there anymore, and the Business KLM lounges are just very average. I am almost saying that President's Club lounges of Continental (an airline I cannot stand) are slightly better

To answer the original question, Pres Club and NW Worldclub passes can be purchased for USD45 at the lounge (daily use), AS BR lounges can be purchased for USD35, KLM lounge passes can be purchased for Euro15 if you are at least a KLM Plus memmber.

Yes, if you have a WBC award ticket, you have access to the WBC lounges.
