What FF program(s) to join?
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question. Please re-direct if necessary.
What are the FF programs to join to cover most "major" airlines, i.e. NW, CO, AA, UA...etc. I was told that joining CO, BA, and Lufthnsa will cover most airlines flying in the US.

It would be easier to give you advice if we had an idea where you are!
In general, you need to examine where you fly from, where you fly to, and where you want to go on award trips.
In general, AS has the best mix of partners, including BA, CO, KL, LA, NW, CX, & AA, to name the biggies.
Most people recommend a primary and secondary program.
In my case, I looked at where I fly and very carefully examined how to get & maintain status for the least amount of money, since most of my travel is personal.

Like most others, I travel for business within the US, and occasionally fly to Asia on personal trips. I am trying to explore ways to concentrate my miles to only a few airlines.

If you are just trying to collect miles than Western Airlines suggestion is the best based on what you state your travel patterns are.
If you are trying to obtain elite status than nobody is going to be able to offer you a viable suggestion until you tell which airport you normally fly from.
Since this is a general mileage earning question would not the answer be best found by the participants of the MilesBuzz! forum? Not sure there are a lot of posters to NW who have extensive knowledge of 1world and *a.
