Missing Mile-a-palooza points

I was flying MSP to DTW and found I could save $150 going through Chicago so decided to do so. I had signed up for the promotion so decided to look at making two reservations, MSP-MDW-MSP and MDW-DTW-MDW so I could get double points. I looked at the rules and found nothing in there stating I couldn't do it so booked it that way. When the points were posted, they posted MSP-DTW and DTW-MSP, meaning I'm out 40 points. I have contacted NWA and they are looking into it. Has anyone else done this?
