Upgrade availability/question

I need some assistance from you upgrade pros out there. I've been silver, lost status in 2001, and now have it back again. In the time that I've been silver, I have never missed an upgrade, and never had to waitlist for it (I must fly places no one else wants to go).

I'm traveling AZO-DTW-SRQ this Friday evening (3/14), and have been upgraded on the AZO-DTW portion, but am still in coach from DTW to SRQ on 1602. I pulled up the seat map on ITN, and 7 of the 16 seats in First are still open. So...I called NWA, and was told that there aren't any upgrade seats left and I'll just have to wait and see what happens at the airport. I know they hold back some seats for last minute purchase, but do they really hold back that many? Would I get further up the list if I check in on-line 30 hours ahead of time?

Thanks for your help.

Taz welcome to FT !

Yes you would be higher on the list the ealier you check-in. Supposedly NWA is now upgrading in the line of Elite and fare class. Meaning Plat the Gold and then Silver and in each of those groups the go by fare class IE: if you a fare class of K you are the last ones upgrade but you would be on the top of the Silver in K list the earlier you check in.

Hope that helps

Yes, they really do hold back that many seats for sale. Keep checking ITN, if you see a free one open up, call them and they'll upgrade you over the phone.

Otherwise check in online exactly 29:59 before departure so you're number one on the list.

Thanks for your help.....I checked ITN yesterday afternoon, just before I was ready to check in on-line, saw that a couple of seats that had previously been occupied were now empty, called, and got upgraded.

The beach calls!!!!
