An alternative to collecting miles is to opt for 20% off the total bill credited back to your credit card (max is $120 per occurance). It usually posts within less than a week. You decide which option is worth more to you: if you spend $1000/yr with iDine restaurants you get 10K miles or $200 back.

Note that the '20% off' comes with a $49.00 fee. See details at:

Yup - the fee is the reason that I choose the miles option instead. I would not get much cash from the program, so I take the free miles.

I look at IDine this way:
If you spend $4000/year, you can get 20% cash, or $800, or 40,000 miles, worth an upgrade to Europe valued at ?$5,000.
If you spend $10,000, you can get $2000 cash or 100,000 miles, worth a ? $12,000 first class ticket to Asia. There is no fee for the airline program. I prefer the miles.

It's definitely worth registering all your credit cards. One of my most pleasant surprises was paying for a luncheon date at the Rattlesnake in Detroit (about $100) and receiving miles for it. I did not know it was an IDine restaurant until the miles showed up.

The other alternative is if you want to enroll in upromise they will give 10% cash into your upromise account at idine restaurants, but can't get both cash & miles. Upromise accounts can supposedly be cashed in without needing to apply it to college savings accounts.
Personally, I've never found a good idine restaurant in Dallas, or the ones that were good left the program. I had to eat at 3 of them for FFF.

In a strange or new city, it can steer you to some pretty good places, whereas otherwise you would have no idea of where to go for a meal.

the 40,000 miles is not "worth $5000" since that $5,000 will get you upgraded all the time, every time. 40,000 miles will get you squat, most of the time (as far as an upgrade to europe goes)

there. now I feel better.

by the way, I think iDine is a great program. I too operate on a "free miles? oh that's nice" basis. I do not pick places based on if they participate or not. The email notification is very nice. Great program!
